“Still sooooo good! The fish is amazing, super crisp and meaty. I can't rave enough about it. My only wish is that the were in a bigger location but they do have the timing down to where if your waiting for a table to open up they bring your food once you're seated.“
“Stopped in for a drink after eating out. The music was great but there were no available seats, the drinks were pricey and the doorman kept letting people in. My bf and I only had the one drink and left. High point, aside from the music, no cover because it was my birthday.“
“WAY better than the guy next door! First time I had Leo's - am from out of town. The food was incredible - the fish was like butter, the batter was perfect. It was crisp on the outside and had a little chew to it. I had the 2 piece with a "few" fries...even for a few...it was a LOT! My aunt had the same but with a "lot" of fires...way too many fires...lol.(not complaining - it was the prefect amount - we took some home) And the fries were great as well, they reminded me of the way Harvey's used to make them - double fried...yum! The gravy was typical restaurant gravy, but with a home-style light color to it...we liked it, and it was a full cup - served in a coffee cup. Will go back again now every time I go to St. John's if I want fish and chips. The tarter sauce....well, that could use some work. They had those little packages - not so great. It's easy to make...just sayin. Oh - be forewarned - the place is a dive, literally almost walked out when we saw the inside...but glad we didn't the food was excellent, wait time was about average for food - about 30 minutes and others were there before us. And the onion rings were awesome too! Server...took a bit for her to warm up, but then she came around...standoffish, but friendly... It's an experience that's for sure...and worth a trip in...again...and...again.“
“I ordered Cod Bites and fries, to go. Food was ready in 10 minutes. I really appreciate the packaging! Brown paper to soak up any extra grease and the food didn't sweat! Cooked fabulously, fish still moist and batter crunchy. Homade fries double dropped to a dark golden finish. ( my personal preference - I prefer a thinner batter. However, it was enjoyable )“
“Nice local diner with fast & friendly service and considerable variety of tasty lunch and dinner items on the menu.Very popular local restaurant ... if the dining space were larger I am sure they would continue to fill the place. ??Kid-friendliness: Great place to take the whole familyParking: Plenty of free parkingWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible“
“Ches's is a must do in Newfoundland. Fish and Hip with gravy and dressing I my absolute favorite...don't judge it until you try it. Newfoundland Saveur dressing is unlike any other dressing you have eaten. The staff is great and the food is exceptional.“
“This was by far the best fish & chips we have had in a longtime. Very fresh and fluffy. The batter isnt too thick and the fries are perfect. The gravy is very good to. We have not tried anything else yet because the fish and chips is too good to not have it..“
“Extremely hospital service as you would receive from local newfoundland locals. I had the fish and chips and they were great. The batter was light and crispy, which enhanced the flavor of the fish. However, if used for the chicken it would give it a more bland flavor. The chips were a seemingly handcut, full body but not crispy. Similar to five guys fries. Overall a great experience and would recommend to try.“
“I'm not a huge fan of fish and chips in general, but I've taken it upon my self to try as many fish and chips places around St. John's as possible to see if I can find one that I like. This is by FAR the best I've had. The fries are good, but the fish is tops. The batter is so crispy and almost has the texture of a cheese puff. The fish is incredibly tender and soft. And the location is incredible too. They only take cash, but have an ATM.“
