Experience Socorro's Mexican food at these fantastic spots.
“We were caught off guard with the food and service at this place. For the last few years, we have avoided eating out because the food, even at our favorite places, has been mediocre, and the service soso while the prices have nearly doubled. We had a very well-kept and pretty woman handle by herself, us and several other parties with all being satisfied. The food fresh and tasty. A pleasant feeling was on all our faces.“
“If you're looking for a quick lunch offsite from New Mexico Tech campus, this is the place. Good value, with a NM/Socorro vibe, and Mexican food that certainly defines the local area. A lot to choose from, but go early because it's a popular lunch spot!“
“I had a work trip to New Mexico over the summer, and my colleagues and I stopped in Socorro for a meeting on our drive back to Albuquerque from Las Cruces. What an interesting pit stop! One of my colleagues used to work in Socorro, so she was happy to be our tour guide for that segment of the trip, sharing personal anecdotes, fun facts, local insights, and other background on Socorro County. After our meeting and brief windshield tour, we ended up at Desert Diamond for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is a no-frills mom and pop that specializes in New Mexican cuisine. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant for the lunch rush, and all signs indicated that this place would be solid. Once we were seated, and I had a chance to scan the menu, I quickly landed on the stuffed sopaipillas since I had never had that particular dish before. About ten minutes later, our meals were expertly delivered to our table in perfect unison. The stuffed sopaipilla came out piping hot and extremely well-seasoned. I decided to enjoy the moment and indulge, effortlessly reinstating my membership in the Clean Plate Club!“
“Food is great. I literally love everything I’ve ever ordered on the menu. The chile is perfect spice and tastey. I love how they have a drive thru when I’m in a rush. The staff that do show up bust their butts and care about their customers! Can never go wrong eating here.“
“We ended up eating here twice over a long weekend. Heading to and back from Cloudcroft. This is the real deal diner experience and I applaud the ownership for not changing a thing. When you got perfection, why change it? Huge menu of tasty delights. Go for the guacamole and chips. We enjoyed lunch time salads and killer huevos racheros for breakfast. Service is personal and professional. Check out the bar/lounge next door. Looks like a great place to escape the heat and enjoy a cocktail. Nicely done, El Camino.“
“We were passing through on our way to El Paso and stopped for dinner. The food was very good and the service was great. The wait staff checked on us multiple times and kept our glasses full. The restaurant was full of people, but we didn't have to wait to be seated. It was confirmation that the food was good here. I would definitely stop here again.Kid-friendliness: There were some kids present with their family and the restaurant had a family vibe.“
“I love this place. Probably the best place to eat in Socorro County (although I have a restaurant myself haha). I love ordering the tacos, any of them are good. I usually get tacos al pastor, or carne asada. Make sure to order rice and beans. Avocados are always fresh and green. Family meal is an excellent deal. Only thing I wish was different was an indoor place so I could hang out longer!“
