About VIA VAI

VIA VAI is a charming and cozy restaurant located in the Astoria area of Queens. The owner, from Italy, ensures that all ingredients are sourced from Italy, contributing to the authentic flavors of the dishes. The restaurant's atmosphere is warm and inviting, with dim lighting and candlelight, making it an ideal place for a romantic evening or a special occasion.

The menu features a variety of dishes, each with its own unique flavor. Standout dishes include the polpette, described as fluffy meatballs in a great-tasting sauce, and the tiramisu, which has excellent flavors and is not overly filling. The restaurant also offers a selection of wines, although the pours are small.

Recent reviews highlight the exceptional quality of the food, with many guests saying it gets better each time they visit. The service is friendly yet professional, adding to the welcoming vibe. Guests have praised the restaurant for feeling like being in Italy, with the freshest ingredients and perfectly prepared meals. Dishes such as pizza, pastas, bronzino, and short ribs salads are highly recommended.

The chef prefers for the food to be ordered all at once, which may not suit those who like to take their time deciding. Despite some dishes being hit or miss, the overall experience, especially during less crowded times, remains outstanding. VIA VAI is a very casual restaurant that is highly recommended for authentic Italian cuisine in a cozy and charming setting.

Mushroom risotto with truffle was excellent, perfectly al dente, and not overpowering with the truffle. The ravioli were super delicate and definitely made fresh in house. Pricing at $32 and $38 is pretty nuts for a plate of pasta, but they were very good.

For appetizers, the calamari was clearly fresh, lightly breaded,...read full review
