Give me the choice of a "fancy pants," ultra deluxe gourmet dinner or a "questionable" hidden gem that transports you halfway around the world before you even sit down at your table, I'll go for choice B every time!! I never would have known about this place, but my sister works right around the corner and passes it every day, so with some time off for "good behavior" (winter break!!) we decided to give it a try. Where I live in Ohioooooo, there's "Mexican" food just about everywhere, but it's rare (not impossible...) to find Central American food here, so this was a nice change of pace. We walked in late on a Friday afternoon (about 2pm) and immediately felt "a gusto/en casa" in the cozy dining room, with about 4-5 booths and tables two large parties occupying the center tables. Crowded, but not cramped. Their menu is full of tempting options, we decided to go for the sampler appetizer plate (plantains, beans, avocado, chicken, beef, chicharon, yuca, a fried egg......) and three different pupusas. We had enough food for an army!! It PAYS to have at least SOME Spanish (my ONE "superpower") but the menu is easy enough to decipher, and the waitresses are super helpful. Awesome service, TONS of delicious choices, reasonable prices, and a "free" afternoon "getaway" to a wonderfully hospitable, though too often misunderstood, region of the Americas, what more could you ask for??
