Based on the reviews, The International Bar is a neighborhood favorite and a true local gem on 1st Ave. It is an old, beautiful, wooden dive bar that feels like a neighborhood institution in the East Village. The atmosphere is great, with a wonderful vibe that makes everyone feel like a regular, whether it is the first or hundredth visit. The bartenders create a welcoming environment and keep customers coming back. One bartender, known as "The Mayor," is described as a unique character who pours drinks and shares stories. The bar offers great drinks, including a mean martini, and features a sick jukebox with musical offerings. While the service is usually ok, one visit was lacking as a bartender was only chatting with regulars. Overall, The International Bar is a true dive and a gem of the East Village, representing old and new New York. It is a must-visit spot for a quick beer or hanging with friends, and a better watering hole in the city is hard to find.
