Highlight of my entire trip, and maybe the best omakase set I’ve had, not to mention it was to-go at that!! I would’ve loved to dine in, but an advance reservation is a must!! Happy I still got to experience this and will be back for more 🙂‍↕️

The sushi was exquisite. The fish was fresh especially salmon. The omakase experience was amazing. We also had sake which paired well with sushi. We went for my birthday and they were kind enough to give a cute sushi cake. The place is tiny so it becomes a bit crowded even for 10 to 12 people at a time.

We ordered the 13 course omakase ($69). Each piece was pretty good, with my favorite being the Hamachi, O-toro, and Hotate. However, I remember the sushi tasting better the first time I went (this is my second time), and I don’t think I would consider this to be above average in terms of my other omakase experiences. While the sushi pieces were good, I’ve had better at other places. For the price, it’s pretty good value but the taste is about average in terms of omakases. Overall, I would recommend trying at least once for the value, but I probably wouldn’t be back often.

This place had fantastic service and sushi!I would compare it to Sushi Bar ATX and say that Shinn felt even more of personal due to their size and had better flavor pairings. Ofc it’s sushi and I understand that but Shinn is doing a great job punching above their price point for the experience. 11/10 staff 11/10 sushi. Forget Nobu and spend local.

Amaaaaaazing value for money, this was honestly so good and cheap for an omakase, I absolutely loved it!
Be sure to book in advance as it is a very small place

small little hole in the wall in the east village. our omakase chef oliver was kind, quick, and diligent. i appreciate how we were in and out within less than an hour! the pieces were decent, although some fish were harder to chew than others- the fish was fresh and delicious. i will also note that the place does smell like acv which can be bothersome to some diners. nonetheless for 69 per person it’s a competitive price.

Best value for your money. The best omakase we’ve had so far in NY. Great service

I have nothing but praises for this establishment! The food was phenomenal and the service was top-notch.

The omakase set was well-paced and each piece of nigiri was outstanding in terms of quality and presentation. The menu allows you to order more after the initial course is done which is great since it would allow you to revisit any nigiri that you loved or even get something to end on an even higher note (we got the A5 Wagyu with Foie Gras which was an absolute stunner).

Experiencing the whole meal for this price point felt like such a steal. That, along with the relaxed atmosphere of the chefs and the place, makes it a perfect omakase to try for first-timers.

If you're in the market for this kind of experience, Shinn East is a place that you would not want to miss.

I loved the food. I wish the staff were nicer. I have a back problem and needed a chair with a back and they acted like they did not have that when I saw the other side of the restaurant did indeed have chairs with backs. Once I mentioned that, they brought the chair. Weird to lie for no reason. They also had just wiped the place down and it smelled REALLLLLY strong of chemicals which turned my stomach a bit at the top of my meal which I didn’t like. Good sushi though.

Do not recommend. There are so many better places in EV alone to get Omakase for under $100/person. I was prepared for an in-and-out 55 minute seating at Shinn East, but it felt particularly rushed here. Some pieces were good, but some smelled particularly fishy or even tasted gamey. There is no ambience inside the restaurant; every other single place I’ve been to felt more spacious and less cramped. There was also a weird smell in the restaurant. It just felt like they want you in and out, the place did not have a lot of personality, and I didn’t find the meal so great. I heard so much about Shinn East but left scratching my head. Even their sister restaurant, Thirteen Water, is so much better than this place. You can get higher quality fish and experiences at other places in the neighborhood, for a similar price.

Fish selection was good and fresh. Could do with less torched nigiri but otherwise the flavor combinations were tasty. I will say that omakase is meant to be a personal experience with the chef as it literally means to “trust the chef” but our chef didn’t know where the fish was sourced or told us anything about the menu selection other than the type of fish. Even if this is on the lower price range of omakase I expected a little more out of the experience (we were also rushed out and spent a total of ~45 min in the restaurant). There are plenty of other omakase places in the city with comparable price ranges that are better worth your $70.

Very reasonably priced omakase for the quality. The portions are good too. The chefs can quickly accommodate to needs. I do think there are many of this style of omakase in the city now, and it has gone downhill a bit, food and service are starting to feels rushed

Great value but very quick experience. Quality of the fish was pretty good and the atmosphere is casual / relaxed. Would come again.
