Ruffian Reviews
Incredible staff, delicious food, robust selection of wine, what else could you ask for!?
Ruffian is a cute little wine bar with a deeply impressive wine menu. I tried their Greek wine flight, which was absolutely delicious, along with two of their tapas that did not disappoint.
Berkshire Pork Shoulder (4.5/5): Very tender, and the sauce paired well with the meat.
Smoked Duck Breast (4.5/5): I’m not usually a fan of berry-style sauces on meat, but this worked well with the duck. The smokiness really pulled through and balanced everything out.

Ruffian is a standout spot, serving thoughtfully plated dishes and offering an extensive wine selection. The atmosphere is inviting, with a pleasant porch for people-watching, and the ambiance is warm and cozy, making it a perfect place for colder months. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service, and the small but intricate menu reflects creativity and local vibes. Guests enjoy great wine recommendations, even if the wine list can seem a little intimidating at first. The food has received praise for dishes like sourdouhi and chocolate cake, with many finding the applet dips, smoked trout, and spatzle especially good. Ruffian is a must-visit for those seeking a culinary adventure in a friendly, intimate setting.
The restaurant is described as a "true East Village gem" with a "cozy ambiance" and an "amazing selection of natural European wines." The staff, including the bartender, servers, and chef, are praised for being "so warm and welcoming." Customers also mention the "creative food and drinks menu," though some were not impressed with certain dishes. The atmosphere is noted as "nice but way too loud for easy conversation." Overall, Ruffian is a favorite wine bar for many, with a "thoughtfully curated menu" of Eastern and Central European wines that have "opened up a whole new door" for wine enthusiasts.
