Reviews for Ukrainian East Village

This is an institution. My family has been going here for decades, including my Ukrainian grandmother. The food is authentic and delicious. Try the borscht -- it is amazing on a cold winter's day. The only one I will eat! Pierogi are also a must. Cannot wait to return here one day soon.

I love the authenticity of this place, including the tough but kind personalities that run it, a bastion in an ever shrinking Central European neighborhood. Outstanding stuffed cabbage - my favorite - and great pierogis. I like aspics so recommend the pork in aspic. Wash it down with the house made fruit drink.

As many others here, we went to Vaselka but wait time was way too much so found this place, and this was a treat. This is like going back in New York City history time. From the long entrance hallway that from the street looks a bit scarry, more like a hospital hallway (those type of lights), but it is part of the experience. Once you go thru entryway and enter into the small restaurant, it is like a time machine back in time, and the food was great and affordable. My full review
