Dera Restaurant in Jackson Heights is a no frills icon and a well-known South Asian restaurant serving Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi food. It is best for Pakistani, Indian, Bangladesh and Nepali people and has been around for a long time. The food is great and delicious, with dishes cooked to perfection. Meals like aloo baingan, beef nihari, chicken tikka, samosa chaat, shami kabab, bhindi masala, chicken malai boti, chicken seekh kabab, chicken tikka masala, plain naan, and muli paratha are all hot and tasty. The naan is a highlight, perfectly made with soft texture and a slight crisp on the edges. The service is good and the staff is very hardworking and attentive. The atmosphere is nice and clean. Complimentary raita and salad are a nice touch. However, the lamb chop was very old, extremely crispy, and dry. The overall quality has declined compared to how it used to be, and parking is a big challenge with no dedicated lot. Desserts like falooda and chai are mediocre, so it is best to skip dessert and tea and focus on the food. Overall, it is an okay place with strong dishes and good variety.
