“My family & I have been coming here forever (since I was a kid). It seems that my whole life, my mom had purchased all her Boars Head cold cuts here. You would think no one can get cold cuts wrong, but add to it that there is no attitude or airs or haughtiness or the famous Rockaway cliquiness in here. I've ordered the whole ball of fresh mozzarella many times. It's excellent. I am shocked at how good the meat sauce is in their fridge. The young woman who checks you out at the cashier is always super friendly. It's refreshing & very normal. Other spots in town are notorious for attitude & shady behavior, but not here. What a pleasant experience to trust the quality & service in here our entire lives. It's about time that so said it in appreciation for my super thin sliced salami! “Under new management and/or ownership, Rockaway Bites has stepped up. Tony, the cook, is my favorite sandwich maker in town. All of his dishes (salads, chicken, etc) are consistently fresh and tasty. Service is back on par since not only are they efficient, they are friendly. I stopped going for about a year, but I'm back because it's convenient, affordable and pleasant.“

The griot (fried pork) in the sand which was so well seasoned and well cooked. It was soft on the inside but crispy on the outside, everything you could ask for with griot. It included a secret sauce that was INCREDIBLE. The place was a cute takeaway spot with a few seats. I began to chat with the woman at the front and asked her who's recipe was the secret sauce. “This store is amazingly clean & well preserved. It looks like you walked into a deli from 1969. Its spotless. Its deli case is filled with all types of delicious food. I got a pastrami on rye w/ fries. Its pretty good pastrami. In my opinion its not made on site. Its a pastrami brisket ordered from a provisions company & maybe steamed in the back. It just does not have that fall apart real kosher deli pastrami texture. That being said its very flavorful sandwitch. I definetly enjoyed it. I give the pastrami a 7/10“

“Got the tacos de carnitas (pork), chorizo (ground pork), and bistec (steak). All delicious but my favorite has to be the carnitas, and this is mostly because the owners wife makes the pork from pork shoulder and she's Dominican so she makes it as pernil which I grew up eating and it's my favorite rendition of pork. So it's fair to say that I've been here like 3 times in the past month and a half after finding this spot ? but it's bc in all honesty these are some of the best tacos in the area (Elmont/valley stream) and especially the best carnitas (pork) tacos in the area. We can try and compare other spots, but I promise you it's just your pride lol if we are talking Elmont this is the spot. Very authentic and the portions are crazy, I can throw down but I'm good with 4-5 tacos. Tbh once you go into 5-6 you're gonna be in the food baby territory of fullness, just get a Jarrito for the bevy and you'll be golden beloved.“
