“A hole in the wall Salvadoran spot in Greenport. I found it by doing a search for affordable food in a Long Island enclave very similar to the rest of the island - overpriced and not necessarily amazingly tasty.
We stayed at a local Airbnb for the very first time last summer, but having gone to Montauk in April realized how pricey eating out is, especially done over the course of several days.
Rinconcito is bare bones. It’s in the back of a dry cleaners, and there’s no ambiance to speak of. Since I can’t communicate in Spanish, I pointed at what I wanted on the menu, then sat at one of the few tables waiting, while one of the ladies working there served local laborers their food and beer.
It took a while but I was in no hurry.
The food is delicious. Everything from shrimp, to chicken, to cow heel soup, to steak with peppers and the many papusas. You can’t go wrong with anything on offer.
It was so good I went back three days in a row.
Keep in mind that it’s cash only, and there’s no reservation but if you want authentic and affordable food that tastes like it just came out of a home kitchen, then this is it.
In fact, we are headed to Greenport for a week tomorrow, and after Christmas, you best believe I’ll be back at Rinconcito for a meal or a few.“
