Visited Saturday morning. The pastries were larger than what I’ve received at other bakeries and tasted good, but were not served hot. The customer service also left a lot to be desired. The server was not welcoming or fully attentive and missed part of my order. When I brought it up, she insisted, in front of the other customers, that I had never asked for it… even though I had. El Pilon Bakery is another Colombian spot I really enjoy. Everything I’ve tried from the menu has been delicious, and the food is definitely worth coming back for.
The only downside is that the location is small and it gets busy, especially because it’s in a high-traffic area. Sometimes you may have to wait for a table or step outside until space opens up. I’ve waited around 20 minutes before, but honestly, the food made it worth it.

A hidden gem in Sunnyside! I’ve been to El Pilon Bakery many times, and it never disappoints. It’s a small, cozy spot that’s always buzzing with people, which says a lot about how loved it is in the neighborhood.
My go-to favorites are the beef empanadas (both fried and spinach options are great), the pandebono, and the cambrayas—everything is fresh, flavorful, and consistently good. And the hot sauce 😋

El Pilon Bakery is worth the trip for its amazing food, with consistently good dishes, especially at breakfast. It offers some of the best Colombian food in NYC, such as delicious pan de bono and bandeja paisa. The prices are reasonable, and the customer service is excellent. However, some breads may be dry or mealy, which might be due to the use of indigenous South American flour.
