A La Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant that serves excellent Shanghaiese cuisine. The shao lung bao (dumplings) and other dishes are delicious, with the whole family, including the children, finishing every bite. The steamed pork dumplings (xiaolongbao) have large balls of pork filling with a juicy, thin skin. The salty pork and tofu in soup features many chunks of pork belly with balanced fatty and lean parts, and the braised pork with vegetables (Dong Po Rou) has a well-balanced flavor with succulent fat caps. The braised shred eel has a thick, umami sauce that pairs well with white rice. Overall, A La Kitchen is a solid place for tasty Shanghai cuisine, comparable or better than the more well-known Din Tai Fung across the street.
