“What a lovely setting for a morning cuppa (or lunch). The Old Bank Arcade is a stunning retail and office complex, beautifully refurbished (the old BNZ branch, 1901-1984, is a Category I Place of special historical and cultural significance). I was fortunate to find a seat in this always busy, popular cafe. And was treated to the best (and perhaps) largest date and apple scone, warmed, and served with a pot of leaf. Friendly, efficient service too. I timed it just right to enjoy the Arcade’s animated musical clock (which plays at the top of the hour).“

“We happened to stumble across this gem of a bakery at the end of the summer. My husband said the raisin butter tart was the best he's EVER had, even better than his late mom's homemade butter tarts. If you are anywhere close to Empire, GO AND GET SOME! If you're not close, go anyway!“
