Dim Sum Restaurants in Scarborough, ON

“First time here, shout out to the cashier. He was super friendly, not very talkative, but he gave off a calm and welcoming vibe. (Don’t know his name, he’s a bit chubby and he told me he rarely there.)

I asked about reheating and mentioned my partner is vegetarian. He knew the products so well and gave great suggestions. The dim sum he recommended was right up our alley!

One small suggestion: would love to see some soup options back on the menu, I heard there used to be a few.“

“Tak Fu even prices things the old-school way (by dish, no specials) with categories ranging from $5.99 (S) to $9.99 (SP). Tea’s a humble $1.50 a person, softening the blow of slightly higher food prices.

So, what’s so special about Tak Fu?

Start with the siu mai or steamed pork dumpling ($7.99). Most places pulverize the pork into springy meatballs. Not here. The pork is hand-chopped, juicy, and tender, breaking apart easily with each bite. Finely diced mushrooms add a hit of umami, while a plump shrimp crowns the top instead of being hidden inside - simple, balanced, and traditional.

Then there’s the har gow or De fu steamed shrimp dumpling ($8.99). The shrimp are properly cleaned and not over-tenderized, keeping their natural flavour and crunch. They’re cooked just right, encased in a slightly thick but satisfyingly elastic wrapper.

The steamed bean curd roll with satay sauce ($7.99) is dense and hearty… half a roll will do. Its filling leans pork-and-cabbage heavy, more like a spring roll in taste, so it’s not as exciting flavour-wise but still comforting.

For a contrast, the steamed rice noodle roll with fried dough in special style ($7.99). The hot, crunchy fritter wrapped in silky rice noodle is spot-on texturally, though the hoisin and sesame sauces could be thicker. Maybe they’re thinned out for easier pouring?

The steamed rice noodle roll with BBQ pork ($7.99) is stuffed to the gills with big chunks of meat and nothing else.

Pair any rice roll with the congee with preserved egg and pork ($8.99) and you’ve got a hearty solo meal. The pork’s properly seasoned, the preserved egg plentiful, and the texture rich and smooth.

For something lighter, go for the dried scallop & seafood dumpling in soup ($8.99). It takes time, but arrives piping hot with a massive dumpling stuffed with shrimp, octopus, scallop, mushrooms, and BBQ pork - generous and satisfying.

The deep-fried squid ($9.99) might just be the best I’ve had: crisp, tender, and barely battered. There’s also plenty of it to go around. Say what you will, Tak Fu doesn’t skimp on portions.

Even their fried rice noodle with beef ($13.99) impresses. Sliced beef, bean sprouts, and onions get a good kiss of wok hay, and those caramelized onion bits add a hit of flavour. A solid, classic version.

If you can wait half an hour, end with the steamed milk ($7.99) for dessert. Lightly sweet, perfumed with ginger, it’s a silky, nostalgic treat you won’t find in many places anymore.“

“August 8 is hands down one of my favourite sushi spots. At least this specific location for me is. Honestly, it feels like it should be a high-end restaurant, the quality of the food is that good.

Of course, their sushi is amazing (fresh, flavourful, and beautifully done), but what really stands out is the variety on the menu. The flavours they use are insane. They have these beef tacos that are absolutely phenomenal I think about them all the time. I always pick the dinner option because I feel like it has more variety to choose from.

My boyfriend and I literally drive all the way from Vaughan just to come here, which says everything about how worth it it is. The staff are also incredible there are always plenty of team members on the floor, so service is fast, attentive, and super efficient.

Everything tastes so fresh, the vibes are great, and they always play good music, which just adds to the whole experience.

Definitely my go-to sushi spot and easily one of the best I’ve been to.“

“I don't know how to respond to comments but thought to respond to Christie's comment that her siu mai was mostly sticky rice: girl, that's Shanghai style siu mai, not the pure pork ones you get from dim sum (Cantonese style)... This is the only place that I'm aware of in the GTA that you can get this style of siu mai. My family has been buying the sticky rice siu mai here since over than 10 years ago and I'm very grateful for the store's existence. Now, the price has gone up significantly over the years and whether it's worth it is a different story.“

“Went back today to try black sesame bao with salt “egg custard” filling (Delicious!); Fung Shing shrimp dumplings and Chicken siu mai. Great place for frozen dim sum!

We’ve tried a few frozen dim sum places at Milliken & Finch. This store is clean, attractive with lots of frozen dim sum, frozen cooked food and desserts. We bought Jumbo shrimp har gow and Beef Brisket with tofu skin (cut brisket into smaller pieces - very good). Prices reasonable. Will return for more, thank you!“

“We wanted good quality Zongzi 粽子(green bean, salted pork and salted egg yolk 鹹蛋黃with sticky rice wrapped in lotus or other leaf, and found it here, based on menu with old prices posted by others. This store sells frozen ones with choice of 1/4, 1/2 or whole salted egg yolk. Bought 2 whole salted egg yolk ones ($8 each), delicious. Good for a treat once in a while. We tried their frozen har gow as well (only one size available. Har gow was good but we prefer the Jumbo ones from other stores. The women who staff this store are very nice, thank you!“

“Good global Taiwanese chain making standard Shanghainese origin traditional foods. We got several cold dishes, dumplings, fried dumplings, Pea sprouts with shrimp. All was pretty good!! The jellyfish had too much oil, and should have cucumbers on side, maybe too complicated for a younger crew to know how to hit it perfectly right.“

“came here for chinese new year with 2 tables of 10 for my gf’s fam dinner and i have nothing but good things to say!

1. all vegetarian dishes were so high quality, yummy, and very filling, as everyone enjoyed every dish and we still had plenty of leftovers at the end 😋
2. the price was incredibly reasonable for the 11 set course meal ($350 pre tax). they’re very competitive, compared to other chinese vegetarian restaurants 😄
3. customer service was very attentive, fast, and friendly when they were so busy on chinese new year🧧🐴. kudos 👏“

“The place is a bit run down but the food is not bad especially considering the price. This time they offer 17 dollar a pound for lobster and it is just a few dollars on top of what u will paid at supermarket.

“We have had DimSum in many places from Saskatchewan to Ontario and even in China and I must say this was the best Dim Sum I have ever had, not to mention that the service was excellent. I would highly recommend Ginger and Onion to anyone looking for a Dim Sum meal. Cost was very fair.“

“It was a very busy restaurant in the weekend morning, waited over 35 minutes to get the table. The dim sums were decent and tasty with reasonable prices. There were additional discounts if you ordered before 11am. The staff were generally friendly and helpful while some were a bit rough probably due to being too busy. Overall it is a decent restaurant and recommended! My rate is 4+.“

“Food is amazing, but only when Alfred is working. His customer service is like no other employee that works here. We have came countless times, and without fail, the food is literally better when he is here. He will ask you how you like ur food (spice levels) and will make sure you get that order correct. There is no other employee that does that here and we very much appreciate it because that was what made this the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.

I came once when Alfred wasn’t working and I asked for a double spicy and the server disregarded that I asked for my food made this way and it was mediocre compared to any other time. I was so disappointed and if this was my first encounter, I never would’ve came back.

Long story short, this place is amazing BUT ONLY WHEN ALFRED IS WORKING.“
