Canadian Restaurants in Thunder Bay, ON

“Big fan of FeastON® restaurants so was hoping to arrive in Thunder Bay from the west to be able to grab dinner here at Tomlin.

Walked in around 7pm and were promptly greeted and asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or dining room. We chose the dining room so we walked down the narrow wooden floor hallway to a back area where their dining area was.

The table already had drink menus on it which makes sense as reviews say this restaurant is great for cocktails and they have a huge selection of wines. Our server soon brought over water for us and food menus. She asked if either of us had any food allergies, which we didn't. Also explained which section was appetizers/shareable plates and which were mains. Also mentioned that the menu is seasonal and everything on it currently is so good. After giving us some time to choose, she took our order.

We ordered one shareable, Tuna Crudo. It was well balanced being sweet, sour, creamy, fresh, and with a tiny little kick. It made it evident that the mains would be really tasty as well.
Server came back to not only take away the empty plate, but also swapped out our small plates and cutlery for new ones.

Both of our mains arrived at the same time, descriptions of what ingredients were in each.
Portion size was definitely fair (not too little and not huge) so we left satisfied and full, but not stuffed.

Only regret was that we were only a party of 2, otherwise would have loved to order their Family Style Tasting (the table next to us had it and everything looked delicious).

In terms of ambience, seating is cozy, as there isn't a whole lot of space between tables, but it's workable.
As well, the lighting is pretty dim for our preference, but can understand why others might enjoy it.

We walked over from our hotel, but looks like there is street parking in the area.

“Delicious food! My husband and I had the calamari and peppers for our appetizer, and then we split the Old School burger. The portions are generous. Our waitress in the bar area was amazing (Sorry I didn't get her name). Just passing through, but if we lived near here, we would definitely ve back!“

“I just wanted to take the tome to acknowledge the amazing efforts of Colin (who I've now known to be the GM of this location) . I had called with a question, simply asking what the daily vegetable was before I placed my order through Skip the Dish. I wanted to make sure the sode was not say roasted red pepper and beans or something. During our briefing talk, I explained I had a food allergy to peppers. He said he would make sure there were no peppers. Much to my delight, the food was absolutely amazing, and I had no issues with anything. What particularly caught me off guard, was that Colin had essentially taken time aside to ensure the safety of my meal, and inquired about all ingredients to the kitchen. He found that there were pepper flakes in the coleslaw side, so he actually attached a had written note with the coleslaw aside, amd substitutions available that accommodated my allergy. I have yet to ever see a restaurant worker take such initiative, let alone learning that this was the GM whom I'm sure had many other things to do that evening. I was absolutely blown away. So Colin, if you ever see this, you made my night, and you've solidified a loyal family of clients to Kelseys, solely because of you. Thank you“

“Had a great time! I enjoyed the scotch selection. We tried a couple I hadn't sipped in a long while. Our dinner was very very good. My partner had the steak (good) and I had an amazing burger--cheddar, bacon, bacon, bacon... mmmmm... the Belgium fries were perfectly cooked.“

“Swiss chalet went above and beyond to accommodate our large 26 person bday party for our niece on April 9th. The restaurant even called in extra help just for our table. Sherri did absolutely amazing with all our orders and requests !!! And the manager even came to see how we were too .
This made it so great , that my husband and 4 more of us are coming in april 13th for my bday ! Lol ❤️“
