Carruthers Restaurant Reviews
We ordered the Dungeness Crab Benedict and could immediately tell it wasn’t Dungeness based on the color and texture. I asked the waiter to check with the kitchen, and he came back saying, “Yeah, Dungeness crab is expensive, so it’s a red crab mix.”
I appreciate the clarification, but this is something that should be clearly communicated on the menu. Most people wouldn’t know the difference, and we still paid full price for what was advertised as Dungeness crab.

We had the best experience at Carruthers tonight! We sat at the bar and had great service. The wine was great, the chowder and salad were both great! The halibut fish and chips were delicious and the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake were absolutely amazing! We will definitely be back…soon!
I'd recommend the "old" Carruthers. 2nd time there since new ownership. Ordered Thai chicken wings, got fried/heavily breaded chicken wings. The only Thai thing about it was a dipping sauce. Berry Margarita tasted like a very sweet slushie.

Carruthers Restaurant is a vintage establishment that still offers good food and has a charming, old-school ambiance. While the service and food presentation can be inconsistent, the restaurant has received praise for its excellent brunch and dinner items. The staff are lovely and thoughtful, providing attentive and quick service that makes guests feel appreciated. Carruthers is known for its delightful atmosphere in downtown Astoria, where diners can enjoy a wonderful meal along with top-notch cocktails. Although the menu has undergone changes, some dishes, like the halibut fish and chips, are delicious and have impressed many diners. The seafood chowder has received mixed reviews; some find it bland while others enjoy it, and the crab cakes, though small, have their fans as well. The restaurant's wine list includes a delicious Malbec, and the orange infused crème brûlée is noted as a favorite. While the ribeye steaks are tender, they can sometimes be served in a bowl, making them difficult to cut. Overall, Carruthers Restaurant offers a mix of highs and lows, with potential for improvement, and is highly recommended for visitors to Astoria.
