“I have lived in Portland for many years and I have searched high and low for a Centeral American restaurant that offered Pupusas and Tamales, just like my moms. Let me tell you I found it. Los Chapines, is the place for some amazing Guatemalan food. I had an order of the revuelta pupusas, cheese and meat and beans. They were very authentic and good sized. They are served with a vinegar slaw and red sauce. I could have eating many more, they were just like my moms. Then I noticed that tamales were on the menu. I ordered a tamale con carne, pork tamale. Huge tamale with a nice sauce and veggies. Served with bread very traditional dish. Lights out the best tasting tamale that I have had in years. The restaurant is tucked back in the plaza next to a Dotties. Very unassuming location. They also have many other Latin favorites on the menu and a bakery! OMG, I hit the lottery. The waitress was very nice and friendly. They have about 6-8 tables on each side. If you want to leave a tip bring some cash they do take credit cards for your meal. I am going to come again to try many more authentic dishes!“

“I placed an order through DoorDash for pick up. My wife is gluten free and my daughter is dairy free. It can be a challenge to accommodate different dietary restrictions. When I picked up my food, the woman who prepared everything assured me that she read all the notes in the order carefully and wanted to make sure everything was correct. I appreciate that level of concern for getting the order right. The food itself was delicious. The shredded chicken in our arepas was seasoned perfectly. The other dishes we ordered were great as well. Overall, a great experience and great food.Dietary restrictions: The restaurant did a great job ensuring gluten free and dairy free options were accommodated.“
