“Stumbled in on my birthday after dropping paperwork off in town. Intentionally taking things slow. Best unplanned stop I've made in a while. It's tucked in the back of 10th and Monmouth this place would have been missed if not for the construction that slowed me down on this slow day. Whew.
The space is small, cozy, and full of character. Board and card games are available with comfy seating. The kind of place that encourages lingering. So I did, thank you very much. And under the cotton cloud with blinking light to boot.
Tucked further back (in the building) is a small used book collection operating largely on the honor system. For a modest donation I walked out with a handful of books: Michelle Obama, Chuck Palahniuk (Portland Local), Bukowski, and a 1960s mind-body-soul volume that may have started the entire wellness movement. Naturally, I also added The Dictionary of Sarcasm. Because what the world needs now is another used bookstore, like I need another hole in my head.
The barista made my low sugar chai matcha latte with coconut milk without blinking or teen angst. Most places blink. Twice. Argue. Then require a brief committee meeting to figure out what to charge. Not that hard people! His was effortless, delicious, and priced right.
The place is filled with teas, spices, and pastries that looked phenomenal. Teas and spices, okay, but pastries? I'm down 45 pounds in 100 days so I spent time admiring the pastry case the way a museum visitor admires priceless artifacts: respectfully, from a safe distance.
There's a burger food truck next door if you want something substantial. I bought the barista one and a chicken sammie for myself. Togo. Between the perfectly made drink, the welcoming atmosphere, and a handful of books for a steal, it seemed entirely justified.
Some coffee shops sell coffee. Places like this create an experience. Slowly.“

“The employees here are excellent, always friendly even when they are swamped. This morning getting breakfast for my wife and I, the line inside and outside was extremely long. The staff were still very nice even though it was obviously very stressful.“

“I write reviews for Yelp also and I specialize in winkling out venues where seniors alone feel welcome. And I range as far south as Albany. Of all the coffee houses I have tried, the Urban Grange has been the most consistently reliable and satisfying. Coffee and bake goods are the best in town, parking is the most convenient, and waits are short.“

“Best place to get coffee, desserts, pizza, and even a brew on tap. The owners are the sweetest people and we love our collaboration there! You can pick up any of our multi award-winning desserts right inside Brew! You will be welcomed by Cathy and Mitch and they’re amazing team, you can’t get a better experience in such a beautiful little town.“
