About Departure Restaurant + Lounge

Departure Restaurant + Lounge in Portland offers a Miami Beach feel with excellent food and beverage selections. The 3-course prix-fixe, cocktails, and dessert were impressive, and the space is light, airy, and fun. The atmosphere is classy and chill, creating a lively and enjoyable experience. The rooftop bar provides a beautiful view of Portland, with fire heaters for colder days, though the menu can be pricey with limited options. Guests have praised the food as delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, with standout dishes like the crab sushi (crab hosomaki), avocado chumaki, salmon uramaki, and wings. The overall experience is enhanced by the great view and welcoming atmosphere, making it a popular spot for those looking to enjoy good food and drinks in a vibrant setting. The restaurant has a relaxed, fun vibe and is perfect for celebrations or special occasions, with excellent service from staff like Jesse and Nina. The patio seating is quiet and perfect for groups, and the food is inventive and flavorful. However, some menu items like the noodle salad were not up to par, and the service can sometimes be inexperienced. It is not very wheelchair accessible, and the menu can be on the spendy side, especially for nonprofit visitors, but many find it worth it for the experience. For larger groups, the service is noted to be great, especially with fixed menus, but planning for extra time is recommended.

Great Japanese-fusion food with an awesome view of the city from the rooftop of the old Meier and Frank building. Our cocktails were decent, not sure we picked right there tbh
Kinda ho hum food. Crab fried rice was no better than rice from Panda. Tuna roll had crunch to it... Just... Ho hum.
Service was good. Drinks were ok.
Departure was a really nice happy hour bar experience and just a decent rooftop bar experience. I've done plenty of other rooftop bars and honestly just expected more windows/sightlines of the city. The actual restaurant was tasty, if a bit pricey, and service was solid. Shrimp toast and the rolls were big highlight for sure. I would come back, but with a smaller group so I could guarantee being outside or near a major window.
