The staff at the NE Broadway location exude a "do I really have to work today" attitude worthy of an episode of Portlandia. We've been customers at the location since back when it was a Kettleman's. When Spielman's took after the Einstein implosion things were definitely looking up.Unfortunately over time the quality has deteriorated. Quite often I find the bagels soggy. The opposite of what a good boiled bagel should be (and you should never ever toast a fresh boiled bagel). In addition the service has become comical (slow service, inability of the staff to prioritize orders that don't require cooking while they wait for those that do, simple orders messed up - incorrect items etc).My wife decided she was done about 12 months ago. After a recent particularly bad service experience I've reluctantly joined her.

The egg & cheese bagel sandwich on a salt & herb bagel with one crispy hashbrown convinced me that I deserve better in life and not to settle. yes, a bagel did that. I will not go back to life before this morning‘s bagel sandwich at Spielman.-tppjan 28 751 am, A.B.

I ordered a catering order for an office work event. I ordered 3 baker's dozen bagels. I needed enough for 30 people. I was told that the amount of coffee in one of their coffee boxes (for large orders) would be enough for 30 people. I thought this was great! I was then told the order would be ready by 8am sharp. When I arrived, the coffee was still being made (no big deal). But when they put the box on the counter and I saw the size... I was told it only served 12 and that I had been misinformed. They remedied this by getting me another box asap, which was nice. But then, I got to the office and realized they had just thrown all the bagels into a paper bag. There were no napkins, no plastic utensils, no plates, and nothing we could use to serve anything. This was supposed to be a catering order...normally when ordering from any establishment, they at least give you napkins. I thought if they usually do large catering orders, they would be experienced, but the person I spoke to on the phone seemed completely clueless about every question I asked, so I guess I should have known better. Needless to say, I will not be going back for any catering/ event needs. The bagels and schmeer are great, I just think they need to have someone who knows about the catering/ large order process, taking the orders. And if they don't know the answers to questions, ask someone who does before making up answers.

So I am originally from New Jersey so I have been looking for good bagels and pizza here on the West Coast in Portland. And I believe I found Great Bagels. I had the Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich on a Salt and Herb bagel, and I had the Lox and Schmear on an Everything bagel. By the time I even thought to write a review, due to enjoying it so much, my first sandwich was gone and I was halfway into my second. So there are no pictures unfortunately, but they looked as delicious as they tasted.

An abundance of delicious bagels and sandwiches greeted me on entry. I want to sample each one of them after having the delicious cinnamon raisin bagel. Nice space with power outlets so you can get some work done while having coffee.

These were the driest bagels I have ever had in my life, I'd even say stale. I've also had lots of vegan bacon but this vegan bacon was like anything I had ever seen as well--it was similar in texture to fatty deli meat. Egg was meh, even the cheese was funky.

Got the blueberry bagel with the blueberry shmear and I got a Breakfast tea with a splash of oat milk. Bagel was exactly what I wanted: delicious, blueberry flavor punch! And the tea, Smith Tea brand, was great, but that's not made by staff. My brother got the lox bagel and he loved it - ate the whole thing and a drip coffee that was good as well. They were playing Tame Impala and Thundercat on the speakers, so the vibes were immaculate! Also, the staff wasn't doing all that hype-y coffee barista stuff, which I appreciate. Just wanted a chill morning breakie and I got it!Wish I could go here more, but I'm from out of town.Dietary restrictions: They had a large list of alternative milks you could choose for your drinks.

maybe the most disappointing lox sandwich? It was super soggy, bagel wasn’t crispy … just wasn’t good. Person taking orders not the friendliest either. Overpriced for the quality. Wouldn’t

Not sure why everyone is hating on Spielmans. Their lox bagel has magic revival abilities and the espresso is solid. Even bought a cool Tshirt here. I go here when I'm sad. Enough said.
