“Saw a sign for croissants on the sidewalk at 203 South State Street, Newtown, PA. I quickly turned into the parking lot remembering I have been wanting to stop in to this shop. OMG!!! A 4-pack will provide a very satisfying dessert for 4 (or more) people. The staff at Newtown is very friendly and personable; the store is immaculate, the service is quick. “My sweetheart and I went here on our second date. The original plan was to meet at Dead King Bread in Manyunk, and then hike in the Wissahickon. Dead King was closed, however, and my sweetheart quickly suggested Roma Cafe as an alternative. I'm ashamed to say that I never knew about this bakery. When I think of Italian bakeries, I typically think of South Philly. This is the real deal. An interior that harkens back to earlier times, and probably owners that harken back to an earlier time!

It was here that I discovered that my sweetheart is extravagant with treats, especially sweets. As a bit of a minimalst, I chose a rather bland biscuit. He chose an array of half a dozen treats, including canolies.

When we eventually made our way to the Wissahickon, we discovered that we had each packed more treats for the hike - cheese, grapes. He brought the most wonderful brie from Trader Joes that was as soft and gooey as if you had baked it in the oven. I noted with approval that he was equipped with a good picnic bag, as was I.

As we walked through the Wissahickon, I was captivated by his friendliness to everyone we passed on the trails, including the dogs.

Everything was delicious, and I appreciated that the canolis were petite in size!“

“Really nice small local ice cream shop with about 12 flavors to choose from. The ice cream is flavorful and creamy and the price is fair for the amount you get. Limited seating inside and unfortunately no seating outside, probably because of the neighborhood.

They made a cake for my “tea party” bridal shower in the shape of a tea pot which was beautiful. It looked absolutely perfect with all the fine details. The lady at the restaurant of the bridal shower didn’t want to cut the tea pot itself because it was just too perfect. No one has ever seen anything like this before at the party! “Ursa bread is fantastic. Since the pandemic when we were incredibly lucky to have this bread delivered to our door to now it has been consistently wonderful bread baked with love. I go to the farmers markets specifically for this bread. Philadelphia has a number of great new small bakeries but Ursa is at the top!“
