“From the moment you step in until you leave you are valued. Frank met us when we arrived insured our meals were up to his and his wife's standards. I have eaten meals at some of the finest dining restaurants around the country. What makes this different? One it is caring from service to ownership. Second, they are culinary chef's and its shows in the taste as well the presentation. I ate vegetables that I usually leave on the side, because it was hard to leave food on the plate. We usually have leftovers, but honestly the portions we appropriate for the price. This is not kid's place. This is a great place for adults to enjoy a meal that is the Best in Berks County and probably beyond. I have been to 48 states, and we usually go where the recommendations are. If you live anywhere near this place and you want a meal that you won't regret, please pick up the phone and call. You will never be disappointed. The best duck I have ever had. “We cannot speak highly enough about Stokesay, their entire team, and, most importantly, Hannah Kufro, our Wedding Coordinator that we worked with! My wife and I signed our venue contract one-year to the date ahead of our big day, with a different coordinator, one who ultimately ended up transitioning to a different organization just a week before our tasting was scheduled. For a couple planning a wedding, especially so close to their big day, this would normally have been an incredibly stressful change to hear about, however, we were expeditiously contacted by Hannah and met her days later at our tasting – immediately after meeting her we knew we were in great hands, and we both agree that our initial impression was spot on. Hannah’s attention to detail, flexibility, and knowledge have continued to impress ourselves, our parents, and our guests who experienced a phenomenal wedding just this past weekend. “We stopped in for brunch and had such a great experience! Our server, Callie, was absolutely wonderful—super friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal even better. My boyfriend ordered the State Hill Loaded Bloody Mary and boy was it loaded… totally worth it! I went with the BOGO mimosa deal, and for the price, you seriously cannot beat it. For food, we highly recommend the Shrimp Eggs Benedict and the Wagyu Meatloaf Bowl. Both were delicious and so satisfying. Overall, great drinks, great food, and great service. We’ll definitely be back!“

“One of Reading, PA hidden gems. Authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The filet over watercress is absolutely amazing and the shrimp papaya salad is a wonderful compliment. I typically end my meal with the coffee Flan, and a cold Vietnamese iced coffee. Its owned by an amazing and gracious local family which has been a staple of the community for over 40 years. I would highly recommend Lang's to anyone wanting an authentic Vietnamese culinary delicious experience.“

None of that weird fake vanilla scent or plastic-y aftertaste like most packaged snacks. Just rich, buttery goodness and that perfect hint of caramel. I looked it up afterward and wasn’t surprised to see it’s made with real ingredients—like all-butter, cage-free eggs, and zero junky additives. You can seriously taste the difference. It was barely edible by the time I got home because the roll was just mush...and the ends of tomato's do not belong in sandwhiches...plus a banana pepper stem...guess it just wasn't my day...because usually they are very good...“

“This summer I had the privilege of bringing my mom to Pennsylvania from overseas for the very first time. Since I'm still fairly new to the area myself, I wanted to introduce her to some of the places that make this region so special. One recommendation that kept coming up was The Ugly Oyster, not only for its food, but for its incredible history.

From the moment we walked through the doors, we were welcomed with genuine warmth. Our server, Norie, was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive, kind, and one of those rare people who makes you feel like she's genuinely happy to see you. It's not every day that you meet people in hospitality who are so passionate about what they do, and that made our visit feel incredibly personal. Before we left, we couldn't resist asking Norie to jump into a photo with us. That probably says more about how welcome she made us feel than anything else I could write.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Kayla, the owner, who took the time to share the story behind The Ugly Oyster and its remarkable history. Learning that the pub was originally shipped from Ireland and carefully preserved made the experience so much more meaningful. Coming from a family with deep European roots, we genuinely appreciated hearing the story behind the building and the care that has gone into preserving such a unique piece of history. It transformed our visit into something much more memorable than simply going out for lunch.

What impressed me most was the respect shown for this landmark. Anyone can own a restaurant, but it takes a special kind of person to become a steward of a historic building. Rather than stripping away its character, it's clear that every effort has been made to preserve what makes this place so unique while ensuring it can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come. That level of care deserves recognition, and Kayla's passion for sharing the building's story is something every visitor should experience.

Our food and drinks arrived quickly, but what stood out even more was the quality. Everything we ordered was fresh, beautifully prepared, and thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, authentically Irish, and there was an unmistakable sense of pride throughout the entire establishment. It felt like a place where everyone genuinely cared, not only about the food they were serving, but about the experience they were creating for every guest who walked through the door.

Out of everything we did during my mom's trip, The Ugly Oyster became one of her favorite memories. We talked about it for days afterward. Unfortunately, time didn't allow us to return before she flew home, but we've already decided that when she comes back to Pennsylvania, The Ugly Oyster will be the very first place we visit.

If you're looking for more than just a meal, if you're looking for history, character, genuine hospitality, and people who truly care about what they do, I can't recommend The Ugly Oyster highly enough. Places like this are becoming increasingly rare. The passion, pride, and genuine care shown by Kayla and her team made our visit unforgettable. We left with full stomachs, a genuine appreciation for people who pour their hearts into what they do, and memories my mom still talks about. We cannot wait to return.“

“This is our go to Chinese spot. Their drive through window makes it easy to pick up especially when you have kids. They are a little expensive compared to the other Chinese restaurants but their food has flavor which makes it worth it! They do not deliver though that’s a down side.

“Went on a Friday night for pizza and cheese steak which was fantastic. Saw that there was a full menu and decided to return the next night for dinner. Starting with the Italian wedding soup was a real treat, this could have been the star of the menu if it wasn't for the main dishes we ordered: lobster ravioli, crab cakes, and baked ziti which all were great. Well done il ignore Paolo, we will be visiting again. As a food critic with a masters in the pizza sciences, highly recommend Paolos.“

“First off, the egg rolls are good, I'd like to see a bit more solid cabbage for flavor, but they are one of the better egg rolls in the area. The food was proportioned to feed more than once, and the brown sauce is good enough. If like to try a few more dishes before I give my permanent rating, but I will give a5 for first impressions.“

“Me and my family have ordered from here a minimum of 7-10 times since moving here in 2022 and we haven’t ever experienced bad meat. We often order and stand there and you can see the men in the kitchen making and preparing the food. Me and my mom walked in tonight and within 6 minutes our two platters were done and we were out the door for $20. Don’t expect five star meals when you are paying $20 for two platters. It’s hilarious to me that the people visiting this place are expecting something five star for $10 a person lol everybody inside is always working hard rain or shine and even when it’s 95 degrees.“

“My friend and I order sandwiches from V & S (Lancaster Ave) every 2 weeks. Last week, we ordered the Cuban sandwiches for the first time. All the sandwiches I've had there have been wonderful - tasty, full of meat and cheese, rolls fresh. (I wish they still had the prosciutto and provolone like years ago. I loved those!) But the Cubans - not that good. I know we're not in Miami, but it tasted like the sandwiches were pressed on the grill, not on a panini iron. You could even see what might be bits of steak and onions on the outside of the rolls, that contributed to the weird flavor. We'll still order because we haven't had better sandwiches! Not he Cubans. (The fries are great, pizza not.) Keep on cooking!“
