Anthracite Cafe is a very casual, family friendly place with a theme based on a type of coal. Many items seem to be created in house, not from a supplier. The servers know about food allergies and always check with the chef. The food is excellent, and the chef shows exceptional technique. The maple bacon risotto is perfect, and the maple bacon bread pudding is pure decadence. The crab cakes and ribs from the regular menu are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The crab cake sandwich and pulled pork are also excellent. The restaurant has many different rooms to sit in and many beers on tap, including their own beer which tastes like the Juice Bomb. The outside bar has plenty of room and lots of TVs. Sunday is a BBQ day that is pretty amazing. Prices are reasonable. However, Thursday wing night was disappointing, with bone in wings having sauce drizzled on only half. The garlic butter sauce was mostly garlic salt, and the hot maple garlic sauce was basic BBQ sauce. The kitchen can be slow. The staff are amazing and care about the experience.
