“I wanted to recognize one specific employee at this Starbucks because what I watched today was genuinely exceptional.

She was the very tall blonde barista wearing the pink unicorn ears/horns today. If you were working this shift, you probably know exactly who I mean.

I sat nearby for quite a while and found myself watching her work. She wasn't simply fast. She was locked in.

The best comparison I can make is watching a master pianist. Her hands seemed to know where they were going before the last movement was finished. She would grab a cup, hit the pumps, move it into place, start the next step, close one machine, and already be reaching for the next drink.

It was as though her mind was several steps ahead and her body simply flowed through the sequence.

What impressed me most was that the speed never seemed to cost her quality. At one point, a small amount of a drink spilled. She noticed it immediately, corrected the amount, cleaned the area, and kept moving.

No frustration. No drama. No loss of rhythm.

She simply noticed the problem, solved it, and continued. That moment impressed me almost more than the speed itself. She worked with focus, precision, care, composure, and an unusual awareness of everything happening around her.

There was a grace to the way she worked.

I have visited many Starbucks locations and seen many good employees. I cannot remember another time when I actually stopped and watched someone work because the quality of the performance itself was fascinating.

She works like an artist behind the counter. And I suspect Starbucks may have a future leader here. Whatever Starbucks does to recognize exceptional employees, please recognize this one. Someone should be paying attention to her.

I walked in for coffee. I unexpectedly got a masterclass in what excellent work looks like.
