“Amazing !! "An excellent meal from start to finish. The dishes were delicious, well-presented, and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend this restaurant!"”
“Everything was amazing! Our table for six was ready, waitress on the second floor was so attentive and careful. The table was always clean, the food was served as it should be.”
“Wir waren in der Woche 2 mal dort. Es war unglaublich lecker. Es gibt viele vegetarische/vegane Gerichte aber auch Gerichte mit Fleisch. Wir hatten vorweg papadams, die mit mehreren Dips und etwas Gemüse kommen und richtig leckere Kartoffeltaler. Die sind wirklich zu empfehlen.”
“It is a place to drink craft beers, which has little more than three dishes (quesadillas, tacos and burritos) if you want to have dinner, but they are amazing and are more than enough (without accompaniments that in the end you always end up leaving, such as potatoes or salad).
Very quiet atmosphere at 8pm, although I suppose it goes on for days. It is a sports bar type place, so it is not for families with children, we did go with two teenagers.
I will repeat for sure before I leave.
Wheelchair accessibility: It communicates with two streets, the lower one suitable for wheelchair access, the dining room is on that level.”

“What a wonderful spot in Funchal! Went back several times to enjoy the tastiest cocktails in a cozy narrow street full of restaurants. The choice is huge and the cocktails are delicious! Live music in the evenings. Service is great!”
“We took a break here while exploring Madeira. The Bar / Restaurant popped up at my Google maps and it was worth stopping by! Beautifully located in nature, modern Ambiente and good food & drinks! I had the vegetarian burger you see on the picture and it was delicious! From coffee to cocktails, from snacks to a full on menu - everyone will be pleased!”
“We are so happy to have discovered this location near us (outside the city center). Simply fantastic. Super tasty, fresh food (e.g. spaghetti Bolognese and penne). Great prices and nice location. I think the positive reviews speak for themselves. We'll definitely come by again.”

“A genuinely incredible dining experience.
Chef Robert has done something very special here. The combination of ingenuity of recipes, local produce and flawless presentation lived up to the expectations and beyond.
The service was also exquisite.
A must see if you're a culinary fan and in Madeira!”

“Excellent food, particularly recommend the chana masala. Several mains are clearly indicated as vegan, and there are a few more unlabelled (eg some starters, etc). Staff made sure to not bring yogurt sauce after we inquired about vegan food, I’m unsure if they automatically do this when ordering vegan dishes.”
“Half of the options on the vegetarian a la carte menu can be made vegan. None of the desserts can be made vegan however they kindly whipped us up a chocolate mousse with red fruits, it was delicious. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Food is on the pricey side and has an upmarket feel. Beautiful view out to sea.”
“It's a nice little restaurant with some tables inside and outside. Staff is very friendly. As others wrote: ask for the vegan menu. Staff made sure to tell me what was vegan and what wasn't when it came to the free things they give you: first you'll get some papadam with 2 sauces (only the mango one is vegan) and then you get sth else (no clue what it was) that was serviced with dry ice = interesting experience. We ordered the pakora for starters and 2 curries as well as some bread with it. Including two drinks we paid about 50 euros. Would go again, nice experience!”
“Small cozy place that serves italian food. It doesn't have any clearly vegan main dishes on the menu, but we asked if the vegetarian pizza could be made vegan by taking out the cheese. The pizza was served with a balsamic vinegar on top instead of the cheese, and it was amazing.”
“Everything from the start to the last minute was a beautiful experience! We have been served by Valter which professionally explained all the details about food, drinks etc and gave us a hint of what we can expect. Now every single food served on the table was truly outstanding! Incredible fresh, superb flavour and just right combination of spices which hit the top note! If you haven't been there yet, please go, you won't be disappointed! This is hidden gem as i call it ?Truly recommend! Thank you Valter for your outstanding service!”
“We had the most wonderful dinner at Gazebo last night. We have previously been to Gazebo for private events but this was our first time going since they opened it up as a restaurant and it was just as special an experience. As always, Filipe’s food was exquisite, presentation perfect and the atmosphere intimate. Everything is sourced locally and the homemade bread was up there as some of the best I’ve ever had!”
“Highly recommended place in Madeira. After several tried espetadas we can say that it is one of the best and to highlight the homemade meatballs which are spectacular. Very good attention and service.”
“Our best meal in Madeira! Oxtail ravioli was insane. Everything surpassed expectations. Sit at the chef’s counter so you can see all the deliciousness coming out!”
“I visited Mundo Vegan – Vegan World together with my girlfriend, and we had a truly wonderful experience. Right when we entered, we noticed the pleasant atmosphere ~ calm, warm, and accompanied by relaxing music in the background. You immediately feel comfortable and welcome. We really appreciate that the restaurant is entirely vegan. We chose the Umami Burger with mushroom, beans and herbs as well as a special lemonade. Since we already know the Beyond Meat patty, we wanted to try the mushroom patty this time ~ and it was a very good choice: fresh, flavorful, and pleasantly light. The lemonade was freshly prepared, which you could taste right away: refreshing, natural, and not too sweet. We found it particularly thoughtful that we briefly mentioned to the waitress that we would like to share the burger ~ and to our surprise, it arrived already cut in half at our table. < 3 Because we enjoyed the food so much, we treated ourselves to dessert: the chocolate cookie and a scoop of mango ice cream. The cookie was one of the best I’ve had in a long time ~ aromatic and clearly homemade. The mango ice cream was also fantastic: fruity and with an intense, natural mango flavor. Overall, it was a great experience ~ delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere, and a place we will definitely visit again. Highly recommended! Updated from previous review on 2025-11-21”

“Poncha one of the best we tried in Madeira! All flavors are delicious, except English tomato (I do not recommend this one). It's a small place on the corner, crowded, so it's hard to get a table in the evening, but you can take a drink in a paper cup to go. Affordable prices, great taste!”

“Bar Lounge on the theme of music, a fairly intimate atmosphere with a refined but elegant decoration. Special mention for the counter lined with bottles and large mirrors!
The cocktail menu is in the form of a mini discotheque.
I recommend the “Sweet Coffee of Mine” which is truly amazing!”
“In a side street, inconspicuously located, the small restaurant offers an excellent regional and national cuisine of very good quality. At first glance, this jewel is easy to overlook at reasonable prices. We let ourselves be pampered several times.Highly recommended. [Original] In einer Seitengasse, unscheinbar gelegen bietet das kleine Restaurant eine vorzügliche regionale und überregionale Küche von sehr guter Qualität. Auf den ersten Blick ist dieses Juwehl zu vernünftigen Preisen leicht zu übersehen. Wir haben uns gleich mehrfach verwöhnen lassen. Sehr empfehlenswert.”
“Very nice upscale restaurant in Funchal. Mostly non-vegan BUT two vegan/vegetarian options for starters and two main courses plus a deliciously presented vegan brownie. Excellent service. Very reasonably priced (dare I say cheap) for what you get. Highly recommended.”
“What an experience!
We enjoyed it immensely. There was a lovely woman who sang all evening. The food was of top quality and the price was cheap compared to Dutch standards.
€61.95 for a 3 course menu with prosecco and 3 different wines, they also poured each time the glass was empty.”

“I remember it being a good restaurant, with good service and, above all, good distance between tables. However, I no longer remember the dishes we ate or how much we paid. The food was good, as meals in Funchal are generally good for a restaurant of this level, and the price was higher, as prices are generally higher in restaurants of this level in Funchal.”
“Restaurant, which doesn't look like much at first glance
Typical Portuguese restaurant with quality products, fresh and more than adequate quantity, all with reasonable prices. the friendly and smiling staff.
I highly recommend this address, I think we will return there this week.”
“We had the pleasure of dining at Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal and overall our experience was almost flawless. The sommelier was exceptionally competent and accompanied us perfectly through the evening with an impressive selection of wines. The service was attentive, friendly and always professional, which made our evening very pleasant.
The presentation of the food was of the highest standard – each dish was served with great attention to detail and was a real feast for the eyes. The kitchen presented us with consistently very good dishes, all of which tasted excellent. The quality and freshness of the ingredients were clearly noticeable, and the combinations were well thought out and harmonious.
Despite all these positive aspects, we were missing a certain highlight, a special kick that we are used to from other restaurants of this class. Maybe it was that last spark of creativity or that one dish that absolutely blew us away. Nevertheless, our visit to Il Gallo d'Oro was a culinary experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, an excellent restaurant that just falls short of perfection. We'd love to come back!”
“The Armazém do Sal restaurant in Funchal is located in a typical alley and offers a rustic and elegant setting. it is recognized for its high-quality cuisine, with fish, seafood, meat and pasta dishes, as well as tempting desserts. The servers are friendly and very attentive. I would just put a caveat on the quantities.
Parking: It is difficult to get around Funchal. Paid parking is recommended
Kid-friendliness: It is suitable for children there are special menus for them
Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs in the restaurant.”
“Wonderful restaurant! Mauricio Faria, the chef, does a great job, especially when it comes to starters and main dishes (the pasta with lamb are amazing, as well as the fish we had). Waiters are very friendly and attentive, and the place, with its orange morrocan vibes, makes the experience even more appreciable. I unreservedly recommend :)”
“Most delicious Italian food I've ever eaten. Huge portions at a great price. Really enjoyed the fact that they offer a half large pizza along with a large salad that was more than just lettuce and tomato. Delicious sangria and smooth creamy Gelato. Will definitely be back.”
“We were looking for a burger later in the evening and were warmly welcomed here.
The food was very tasty and prepared with love. The ladies who run the restaurant were very accommodating.
Both the garlic sauce and the chipotle sauce were absolutely amazing. The place is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a good, unusual burger! Thank you very much ?”

“The dishes are incredible and the prices affordable, it’s not more expensive than anywhere else in Madeira! In addition to that, the staff is attentive and the place and the view are magnificent ?”

Takeout Restaurants
“Had a great time there with my friend. Went there 3 times in 1 week. The food was really tasty. Amazing views all around (including the waiters ?). They were really friendly and attentive. Had a really nice chat with them during our meal.
The poncha was really good. Had a few too many ?”
“Pastelaria K is located on a side street of Rua Levada do Cavalo, on a road that has no exit, but it is possible to easily reverse course. It belongs to the parish of São Pedro, municipality of Funchal, the main municipality of Madeira Island. It is easy and free to park nearby. Here you can have a good coffee or an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. It has a pleasant and spacious terrace. The bakery is of good quality and the service is friendly and cordial. A little pricey, but good value for money. Space hygiene is another positive factor of this pleasant space.”
“If you like tourist areas this is fine, if you don't, I wouldn't advise going out of your way to visit this or any other place in Funchal. If you are knocking about the area then this is a quieter side with outdoor seating, friendly staff (seemed under pressure though)Food was nice, order didn't come exactly as asked but that had more to do with me and my accent not being clear enough - need to remember when traveling that the people you are speaking too may not have English as their first language.”
“You have a direct view of the water and the food is good. Service can be a bit slow, but there are many tables and the restaurant is always busy.
It seemed like they were cooperating with the sushi place next door, but we haven’t tried that.”
“We got a place for six people without a reservation. Unfortunately, the high chair that we would have needed for our baby was reserved for another family all evening, but they didn't use it from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. For this reason there are only four stars and a deduction for service, even though David was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was a little disturbed when the boss reprimanded the staff and we had our table right next door. The food was excellent and the price/performance ratio was right. We'd love to come back and reserve the high chair next time ?”
“My favourite place in Maderia for ice cream. They change the flavours up daily and have many to choose from! The portions and price are great which makes coming back every day easy. All flavours tried so far were delicious! And top it up, a lovely view of the sea!”
“Sehr gute Essen. Cod a Bras, Bruschetta aber vorallem die Pizzen. Alles scheint frisch gemacht zu werden und schmeckt sehr gut. Die Kellner sind auch sehr nett. Location könnte ausgebaut werden, aber ist OK. Scheint ein eher neueres Lokal zu sein in der Stadt, dass bald fertiggestellt wird. Sehr zu empfehlen, vorallem für Besucher von nahegelegenen Hotels.”
“Very tasty when we visited, almost all the seats were occupied and we waited about 30 minutes for the food, but otherwise it was great.
Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor”

“Excellent food, friendly service (4 stars as they were short handed, so a bit slow) fun atmosphere- close to where we were staying, but off the beaten path….so had to look for it, which was fun. Appeared to be popular with both locals & tourists. mojitos were soo good. We both had the pulled pork - will try the chicken next time! Highly recommend”
“Very friendly restaurant and affordable prices! I had the tuna steak and unfortunately it was not specified that the sauce was wine, which spoiled my dish a little, too bad :/
In terms of side dishes, we had a plate for 2 of fries and salad, fortunately the quantities were still there!”
“Excellent restaurant, the best food we ate in Funchal!!! To our surprise, it was not the beer that was important, but the excellent food: be sure to try Picado (we ate beef and octopus). Great service and atmosphere! And finally, brandy shots, which is not standard in Funchal! I recommend it 100%”
“I recently visited this bar and I was impressed! The service was both smiley and professional, making me feel welcomed from the moment I stepped in. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors and fresh ingredients.Great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. It’s definitely worth a visit for anyone looking for great food and excellent service.”
“An enchanting little snack bar with great service and delicious meals. Their lunch specials are great so get there early before they run out of the specials. If you miss the specials that's ok, just about everything on their menu is the best version you will find. I love their simple yet delicious vegetable wrap and their chicken mixed salad. Even the beets, which I normally don't like are an addition to the tasted profile of salads and warps due to how thin they are sliced. The snack bar is nesstled in a quiet street near the Rodoeste business office.”
“A rustic sports and tapas bar that is a little away from the hustle and bustle of tourism and the restaurant mile. There is a very good poncha there (€2.50) and it is the best for me so far. Very friendly boss and familiar, local atmosphere - that's how you have to experience Funchal.”
“We were really surprised to find such refined and well-balanced dishes! Excellent raw materials and impeccable service! The best restaurant we ate at this holiday!”
“My partner had a tasty bruschetta ai funghi for starters which was fully vegan. Then for mains we had a marinara and truffle pizza with ‘Veganarias’ vegan mozzarella. You can add normal mozzarella instead but this specific one is made in Madeira and is local. Food was fantastic.”
“Excellent restaurant to eat sushi, everything we ordered was delicious. The chefs know how to prepare the products very well. It is also accompanied by the attention of the staff, who are all very friendly, and the charm of the place.”
“Zeker een aanrader! Leuke ervaring met portugees zingende obers/serveersters. Familie bedrijf, die sfeer brengen ze ook. Eten was lekker, geen culinair hoogstandje, maar daar kwamen we ook niet voor.”
“Highly recommended! Great wine & food bar! Superb charcuterie & cheese board for 24 euros! Could have been shared between 3 people. White wine was amazing!! Worth a visit!!”
“Magnificent meal with excellent fish and espetada as well. We had a great time and really appreciated the very pleasant servers with a great sense of humor! We recommend this place.”
“A decent sushi place in Madeira. I am a big sushi fan and I have been to Japan and Dusseldorf many times for very good sushi for good prices too, so I can compare to what I am used to eat. These sushi's are decent (I would just change the rice and make it less squeezed or pressed, it is nice to see the big grain of rice ) and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere.Price wise I found that was a bit expensive for just the Maki, but the special rolls are fine. The staff is friendly and will assist you quickly, there was not much waiting time. Recommend if you are looking for a nice sushi dine with friends.”
“Very tasty food. You can feel the real Italy in it. Daily specials at affordable prices.
Vegetarian options: Tomato soup and focaccia are a great dish for vegetarians”
“Restaurant, which doesn't look like much at first glance
Typical Portuguese restaurant with quality products, fresh and more than adequate quantity, all with reasonable prices. the friendly and smiling staff.
I highly recommend this address, I think we will return there this week.”
“Vegetarian options: This was a brand new restaurant Mt Everest Momo and Ramen that had literally opened the day before. The momo’s are delicious. The chicken chili is too.Get a Carol beer and relax. I’m sure service will get surer with time- but everyone is friendly and nice already.”
“A nice restaurant with plenty of vegetarian options. Highly recommended. We ordered a garlic naan, aloo gobi, pilau rice, steamed rice and mixed vegetables. I asked if the food could be made too spicy and that was no problem. There was certainly still enough flavor in the dishes.”
“Cozy setting, British charm, cuisine that is both traditional and sophisticated. Interesting wine list. Impeccable service. To discover
Parking: On the spot.”
“We are delighted, not to mention that the staff is very pleasant and attentive.
Sangria (very well served) Sabre(espada), grilled squid and the famous garlic bread.
To finish for both of us a Dolce American
We recommend”
““Definitely worth a visit”
Great menu with special dishes. In any case, we enjoyed everything very much. We had reservations, which was necessary. The restaurant is relatively small and very busy.
We would definitely come here again.”
“Nice little place in the square. Menu isn't very big but the dishes are very tasty. Variety of breakfast dishes, dish of day and other traditional dishes. Reasonable priced and service was very good.”
“Very tasty food and drinks, the service was excellent... we had the terrace almost to ourselves and the waiter was super nice... even a small snack in between but not intrusive... we drove up to Monte especially for dinner and it was worth it...”
“A true masterpiece in such a small space.??
A simple space on the outside, but inside we have excellent cuisine in snacks, an art gallery to support artisans, a very friendly staff, a very well equipped wine cellar and of course the icing on the cake, the decoration in the your whole.
Go to the bathroom for a repair, you'll understand why. ”
“It's a great place if you want to do rum tasting or port wine tasting. Please note that they only have port wines in their Portugal wine tasting repertoire since Madeira is famous for its port wines. The vibe was really chill around 10 pm with people sitting outside and one guy playing guitar.”
“A place that I recommend 100%.
Delicious food, there isn't a bad thing, everything is great.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere.
Many congratulations to the owners and employees.”
“Time of visit: October 2023
Very good and fresh local food for a great price. Service was charming, we had a few language difficulties but nothing we couldn't solve.”
“The food was really flavourful, the place was really small but didn’t bother us much, the food came no more than 20 minutes after we ordered, there wasn’t so many options of Asian cuisine mostly just curries fried rice soup and samosa and spring roll starters, the customer service was really nice with kind and friendly servers.Overall amazing food but not many seating for parties or big family’s.”
“We visited twice and the place really depends on who's working that day. First day was amazing but second was far from it. The waiter got the orders wrong, never cleaned up the table but just kept adding plates, leaving both empty glasses and used plates, had to ask twice for them to remove them. Took over ten minutes to get the drink menu after dinner and the two waiters blamed each other for the delay.
But the firs night was amazing service, that's the reason we came back. Hopefully they were new to the job and they will get better. Being slow and forgetting things are ok for a new person. But blaming your colleagues, being unpolite and having very little customer service is not really that good.
The food was really good and they have amazing drinks! The atmosphere is great, both nights.”
“Brilliant food - tasty, with a large selection of toppings, great wine!
Great service, including the owner who looked after everything from the entrance.
We are delighted!”
“Great space and incredible staff, very attentive, well prepared drinks.
Nice space to be with friends, good atmosphere.
I visited almost every day of my trip to Madeira.
There are no photos, but there were good memories of the space.”
“Perfect place to start the day. It offers a large variety of very high quality products. Delicious food, excellent service with super friendly staff and a small outdoor terrace with sea view where you can have breakfast”
“We recently dined at Paula’s bistro and had delicious espada fish and chicken risotto. The waitress was friendly and recommended us really good food. Situated in a good location with pleasant atmosphere for a relaxing evening. It’s worth a visit ?”
“Absolutely loved this completely original place. Met a super friendly staff at the bar. Served us poncha from a jar just sitting on the bar. Nothing beats this authencity.”
“We were looking for a burger later in the evening and were warmly welcomed here.

“This place is a fantastic find! The food was delicious, especially the prego (which was the best I had in Funchal). The prices were very reasonable and the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Highly recommend! Conveniently located in close to the Forum Mall.”

“My wife and I enjoyed the quality of wine, amazing food and hospitality. It was a must to stop for us every night.
Kid-friendliness: Excellent service, very easy going it couldn't have been better.I would go again we loved it.”
“Excellent. A wine bar with excellent cuisine, succulent dishes as well as being beautiful. Quality service and sea view at the end of the street. Come try?
Our budget experience will not necessarily be yours. Please note, the cheese and charcuterie board for dessert is suitable for a meal to share
Vegetarian options: Fresh salad. Delicious. My experience this evening”
“Grilled limpets were something amazing! Mixed Fish w/ Seafood and 6 Large Prawns is really tasty. We even asked to pack it for take away, because the portion was too big. The dessert had too much sugar inside, but it was unforgettable. And the view… directly inside my heart.”
“The people are great and the venue is very relaxing. At least the lower terrace. The upper floor is a bit noisy due to being right at the street. So we recommend the downstairs area.
The 3 course menus are inexpensive and you have a lot of great options. The food while good is not best in class. We still visited 3 times during our stay and will come back when we come back to Madeira.”
“Vegan Burger and the Smoothie Bowl tasted very good. Went with meat Which liked the non vegan options very much. The Prices couldnt have better. Defently worth a visit”
“Delicious and at a very good price, highly recommended.
We went yesterday to eat before returning to Spain from our trip, and the truth is that we were pleasantly surprised. The menu was €8 and something, and included a fairly powerful dish and coffee. We ordered spaghetti carbonara, chicken poke, a chicken wrap and for dessert a Nutella brownie. Everything was very very good, I personally liked it a lot, especially the brownie that was clearly homemade, which was very appreciated. In the end we came out to about €10 per person.
The woman who attended us was very kind and friendly. We asked him some questions about the letter, and although he admitted that it was new, he was concerned about answering all the questions we had.
If I ever return to Madeira I will go to the place again without hesitation.”
“Good! But the waiter didn't warn us and brought us two ponchas and 9 euros more for those two mini ponchas... he must have said that they are not on the menu... we feel cheated in that regard.”

“We ate in this restaurant today and can only say: Chapeau! First-class food, very friendly, courteous and attentive staff, the price-performance ratio is right. We can recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone who wants to eat something quieter and more select.”
“Had a great time there with my friend. Went there 3 times in 1 week. The food was really tasty. Amazing views all around (including the waiters ?). They were really friendly and attentive. Had a really nice chat with them during our meal.
The poncha was really good. Had a few too many ?”
“My and my partner had dinner there last night. Food was lovely, seafood very fresh. Views are absolutely amazing and we actually saw 2 dolphins half way through our meal which was absolutely magical. We also ordered a white sangria, which is the best one we had in Madeira so far. We will definitely visit again before our holiday is over. Highly recommend”
“La dame qui paraît la patronne est très sympathique.
La carte a beaucoup de choses voir peut-être un peu trop a mon goût mais au résultat la cuisine est bonne et quelques produits traditionnels.poulpe morue
Petit bémol les prix sont un petit peu chère par rapport à ce qui nous est servi dans l’assiette , en sachant que les prix des restaurants à côté semblait à moitié prix ?
Je recommande quand même ce restaurant car la terrasse permet de recevoir une belle tablée”
“Good food with friendly service. We loved our food and there was enough to choose. I have tried the soup of the day and beside that we both eat meat. As a starter we eat local cheese. When we are in the possibility we would love to go back to this restaurant again..”
“All of 30 metres away from Sunny bar we found small bar Expresso. Another wonderful locals bar. Super locals vibe and great value. Oddly it has world snooker final on TV. We were drinking next to the Crucible Theatre when it started just over 2 weeks ago. Small world.”
“The Galician mussels and Bolo do caco were truly fantastic. The shrimp risotto was also great. Almond scabbard fish & accompanying potatoes and vegetables were pretty disappointing however, and the service was rather slow.”
“Simply perfect, we ate so much, we almost rolled down to the beach. Service top, very friendly and the food is super delicious. We recommended to couple people, all loved it!”
“Intimate setting with sea view and live saxophone player (Not every day, check availability) who plays a wide repertoire in a Lounge style (ABBA among others)
For the menu you will find more sophisticated dishes than in most restaurants in Madeira!
I recommend the executive menu at €55 per person which includes 4/5 glasses of wine and a starter/main course/dessert!
For the starter I highly recommend the foie gras in two textures, and for the main course the beef Rossini.
The only weak points of this establishment are the waiting time between the starter and the main course, and the toilets which denote the standard of the establishment…
Small bonus, for 20€ it is possible to be taken to the restaurant in an old car which makes the experience all the more romantic!”
“A nice place for «fine dining». The restaurant have a good amount of vegetarian options, and a few vegan options (starter, main and dessert). Went there twice during my stay in Funchal.”
“An Unforgettable Dining Experience
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Real Canoa, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The food was nothing short of fantastic—each dish was well-prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour.
The staff at Real Canoa truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Their friendliness and attentiveness added a personal touch to the evening, making me feel right at home. They made my birthday celebration particularly special by bringing out a cake and playing "Happy Birthday," creating a memorable moment that I will cherish.
The ambience of the restaurant is another highlight. The elegant decor, coupled with the soothing live music playing in the background, created a perfect setting for a delightful dining experience. It's a place where you can relax, enjoy great food, and soak in the wonderful atmosphere.
Moreover, the food is not only delicious but also offers great value for money. It's rare to find a place that excels in both quality and affordability, but Real Canoa manages to do just that. Whether you're looking for a special night out or just a great meal, this restaurant is a fantastic choice.
I would definitely recommend Real Canoa to anyone in the area. It's an amazing experience that you won't want to miss!”
“I was here with my boyfriend, they even complied with my request by creating an off-menu dish, very kind staff, fresh and excellent food and ingredients, perhaps the best tempura ever.
Super recommended”
“The best restaurant in Funchal! The view is amazing, the service is attentive, and the food is delicious (especially their special course menu ?).
I don’t understand why they are still without Michelin star ?
Thanks to your team. May the Michelin star will come soon??”
“The view is pleasant, I think it’s good place where you can stop and drink something on your way to beach. The English breakfast was nice, the best were butter, jam, toasts and beans. The bacon and eggs were not bad, but the sausage tasted really weird. We were satisfied with the breakfast because it really filled us up for the day.”
“Busy hub serving excellent coffees, pastries snacks etc...Casual and friendly . Quick turnaround, perfect if you want to eat, drink and be on your way.
Top quality on everything too”
“We were not expecting such a high quality and original sushis ! I'm not a fan of salted sushi with fruits, but here it was just wow ! Special lentipm for the sishi with strawberry ?”
“We really love this place. We love the simple menu and very well cooked fresh food. We have been twice it's so good. Both times we had the chicken served hot with a sort of piri piri, the best homemade fries with fresh garlic, superb Bolo do Caco better than anywhere else and a lovely fresh salad with Avocado. Simple food but the highest quality and nice friendly staff serving on. This place for us is one of the best kept secrets in Funchal, don't tell everyone.”
“The service was super friendly, when asked how big the different pizzas were, the boss brought three different plates from the kitchen ?
Ambience quite normal, we ate in the hotel.
Flawless!”
“Much more than a Snack-Bar! More like a star restaurant with low prices. We had excellent food after a visit to The Palace Hotel garden and even better cocktails. Friendly and hospitable staff. Absolutely recommended for a drink, a snack or even better, a complete meal. Very tasty!”
“The snack bar or the landscape, in addition to the excellent view, you will find in the bar all the variety of drinks and pastries at the best price/quality on the market. It also has a ballroom for parties.”
“If you want to try on of the famous dishes of Porto, these restaurant is a guarantee of quality food. The francesinha size is adequate and the ingredients are tasteful.”
“Nice place right in the center of Funchal
It has a spectacular landscape in the background where we can enjoy a very pleasant evening.
I recommend”
“Simply one of the best restaurants in the area. We have been here numerous times over multiple Madeira visit and have not had a bad meal. The Chicken is a highlight.”
“Cool and pleasant atmosphere in the shade. The coffee is delicious, but the snack, specifically the toast, is small, close to the price charged. Fast and friendly service. Due to the large flow and wind, there is a lot of trash on the ground, which should receive more attention from employees.”
“Enjoyed our dinner here! Everything is super fresh and service is great. If you’re from the US, just remember to ask for your check as they’re very mindful of not rushing you.”
“What a find. Beautiful, clean, great food, drink and service.Staff at the reception of the hotel were friendly and directed us to the lifts up to the rooftop bar where we were welcomed and served quickly. We had white sangria, fries and toasties which were all great.Perfect spot for a sunny day and to admire the views of Funchal”
“Very good food. From the menu I first ate the tomato and onion soup, very tasty. For the second, the swordfish with banana, delicious and very abundant, with all kinds of accompaniment (rice, black beans, potato...). And also, a very friendly treatment, they even invited us to a shot.”
“Food was decent, but service was amazing, great servers. Will absolutely recomend this place for a family dinner, as the food was very okay, but fast, and great servers”
“You have a direct view of the water and the food is good. Service can be a bit slow, but there are many tables and the restaurant is always busy.
It seemed like they were cooperating with the sushi place next door, but we haven’t tried that.”
“There is nothing marked on the menu but the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and are able to suggest different options for pizzas, pastas and risottos. We had garlic bread and pasta arrabiata with mushrooms instead of bacon. Desert was a Ben &Jerry's vegan ice-cream. Most of their menu is pizzas and they do have vegan cheese if you want it. The food was good but not amazing but really the ambience makes this a worthwhile place to eat. We sat outside on a pleasant evening listening to a guitarist playing at the bar opposite. “In a side street, inconspicuously located, the small restaurant offers an excellent regional and national cuisine of very good quality. At first glance, this jewel is easy to overlook at reasonable prices. We let ourselves be pampered several times.Highly recommended. [Original] In einer Seitengasse, unscheinbar gelegen bietet das kleine Restaurant eine vorzügliche regionale und überregionale Küche von sehr guter Qualität. Auf den ersten Blick ist dieses Juwehl zu vernünftigen Preisen leicht zu übersehen. Wir haben uns gleich mehrfach verwöhnen lassen. Sehr empfehlenswert.”
“The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great. When I asked the bartender what wine he suggested – “Segredos de Sao Miguel”. Since I liked the wine, when I asked where I could buy it, the answer was that it is not available in stores, and you can only buy it in your bar for 20EUR. It is a pity that the bartender is a liar, because in a wine store you can buy it for 3.2EUR.. Unfortunately, the place is great, but it is a pity that the bartender lies like that... No one should buy wine for such prices :)”

“Poncha one of the best we tried in Madeira! All flavors are delicious, except English tomato (I do not recommend this one). It's a small place on the corner, crowded, so it's hard to get a table in the evening, but you can take a drink in a paper cup to go. Affordable prices, great taste!”
“Excellent restaurant, the best food we ate in Funchal!!! To our surprise, it was not the beer that was important, but the excellent food: be sure to try Picado (we ate beef and octopus). Great service and atmosphere! And finally, brandy shots, which is not standard in Funchal! I recommend it 100%”
“We got a place for six people without a reservation.
“Both opted for pizza. Tastiest pizza I’ve had this holiday. The base was light, the tomato base had herbs which added to the overall taste, the whole pizza was covered in melted cheese. Hubby opted for the special pizza, while pizza base fully loaded with topping. Large pizzas meant we took home a box with the 2nd halves of our pizzas! Unknown for hubby, he usually polishes off my left overs!! Price includes drinks. Good atmosphere, music, Olympics and football on screens. Lots of different age groups, families, couples etc.”
“We had to wait 30 minutes to order and get food. But the result was worth it.
Vegetarian options: They got many vegetarian food.

“A genuinely incredible dining experience.
Chef Robert has done something very special here. The combination of ingenuity of recipes, local produce and flawless presentation lived up to the expectations and beyond.
The service was also exquisite.
A must see if you're a culinary fan and in Madeira!”
