“October 14, 2023. Saturday. Breakfast. My wife and I were looking for a spot to eat something before our early tour of the nearby Sandeman port wine cellars. We didn't want to sample five port wines on an empty stomach. Luckily, we stumbled upon this cafe down a nearby alley way. They had a good selection of breakfast baguettes and lunch sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers. The drink offerings included soda, hot beverages, coffee and adult beverages. I ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice (1.40 euros) and baguette atum e ovo cozido/tuna and hard boiled egg baguette (4 euros). This cafe is old, with real stone walls.Food came quickly and tasted surprisingly good. Loved the cold, fresh squeezed glass of vitamin C and the baguette came overflowing with tuna and perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs. A large baguette for sure.Great food in an unassuming place.“

“We wandered in here after a day of visiting various port lodges & tastings. Our server Adam was an absolute delight - his approach & explanations of the port tasting flight & food pairing we ordered was the best we experienced that day. He is a credit to the business.
The pairing itself was well conceived and beautifully matched, as well as being great value.
To top it off, it's a really nice space with great views. Highly recommended.“

“Wow, wow, wow!!! This place is AMAZING, Ricardo one of the partners here is charming, passionate, and just an overall welcoming soul and wants you to enjoy the food from his chef and kitchen. All of his recommendations were spot on, and he welcomed us "home" before our meal which we knew this meant we were in for a dining experience like no other. Just a walk around the corner from Graham's Porto Lodge, and a must try if you are in Gaia.“

“My wife and I had a great wine experience here! Very down to earth, yet knowledgeable hosts. I tried a crazy good white port wine here, the 20yo vintage white port. Prices are very reasonable, around 6€ per glass. We had 5 ports altogether, for the price of 42€, and we got some of the more pricey ones. You can sit outside, or inside in comfy and atmospheric tables. A must if you're into wine at all. ? Cheers to João, very cool host!“

“Fresh and interesting dishes, great range of natural wines and vermouths by the glass, excellent service and ambience. The mackerel dish was exceptional in an already special lineup of plates. When the bill arrived we were amazed with the value. Left smiling, satisfied and inspired - could not recommend Genuino highly enough.“

“Rafa is an absolute gem - he curates these tastings with so much passion and attention to detail that you'll be walking away with a newfound appreciation for wine (even IF you already very much appreciated wine before). He does an incredible job fostering a vibe that is both intimate and educational yet still very much unintimidating; by the end of the tasting, it feels like you're enjoying great wine/cheese with old friends at a small dinner party. If you're lucky enough to have an opportunity to snag some time with Rafa, don't even think twice and just book it! It'll be the highlight of your trip. And if it puts anything in perspective, I'm still texting Rafa about wines I'm enjoying in the States to this day ? He’s the best.“

“100/10! My friend and I did the 5 glass wine tasting and the man, who I presume was the owner, explained each individual wine to us. We also ordered a meat and cheese board and he explained all the regions behind the food as well. VERY reasonably priced, 100% recommend.“

“We came here on a recommendation and this place is brilliant! This modern, natural wine bar serves a wide variety of ports and wines and deli food: fresh sandwiches, sharing boards, fish dishes, desserts and coffees. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced- we shared the small meat and cheese board with sourdough bread and it was excellent quality. The server was more than happy to make a tomato sandwich for our little boy which he devoured- juicy, fresh tomatoes and fresh from the oven sourdough. The drinks we ordered- port, white wine and an organic soda for the little one were all delicious. Service was fantastic and we had a great chat about Porto with the lady running the place. Highly recommended and will definitely be back- thanks for a great lunch experience! ?
Kid-friendliness: They were so accommodating with our 6 year old, making him something that wasn't on the menu and happily chatting with him about his favourite movies ?“

“We had a great time with the very pleasant and knowledgeable Lucas. Tried some wonderful local producers and a very useful introduction to Ports and the wine makers of the Douro, including the history. I decided to get the cheese board which was also very tasty. Bought a bottle of the twenty year old Tawny which made it home safely. Thanks to the other staff who helped with a wine choice for my partner. Definitely recommend if you want a local feel to your wine and Port experience. I found it a much better experience than the large Port houses across the river.“

“We went a month ago and had a spectacular time. The area is very beautiful and we had a beautiful view of the sunset. The owner took care of us, was very kind to us and could communicate easily in Spanish. He was attentive to us and we talked a lot with him. The food was spectacular. We didn't come hungry but it was so good that we continued eating. The wine selection was good. If I return to Porto I would eat here again.“

“We found this place by chance among narrow streets of tourists and many small restaurants with no space available. We wanted to taste typical Port wine and it was a great option. Unbeatable staff attention and for €25 we had a taste of 4 wines and a tapa of typical cod fritters (2 people). They gave us an explanation of each wine. Without a doubt an option to take into account.“

“The food is pretty good, but if you want cod… it's not the place. Original flavors, acceptable service and a very good atmosphere.
It is at the edge of the corridor in the Ribeira. A place to enjoy. I advise arriving before two or after three thirty. If not, wait for a table.
A curiosity. When you enter the premises you can see the floor below through the floor.

“Located in one of the city's most trendy neighborhoods - Bonfim - Dona Mira reflects the city's climate of diversity and cultural effervescence. This can be seen as soon as you enter the bar, with the exhibition of photographs of the bar's owners interacting with some of the most important musicians in Brazil. The tribute makes perfect sense since both Carlos and Valéria are renowned producers and singers, respectively.
Here you can find both the comfort to read while drinking a coffee on a rainy afternoon, and the space to share a good wine and some snacks while chatting with friends. At the back of the café there is a terrace where you can make the most of the longest and softest days of the year and, in addition, there is a library. If you didn't bring your book with you to enjoy the moment, no problem, Dona Mira has a library of books to borrow and, even better, there is a small bookstore full of Brazilian editions that are not always easy to find here in Portugal.“

Followed with crispy and fresh fried white bait.

Main was a fish and seafood "massada" , light with the hints of fresh parsley.

Dessert was "Rabanada" that is traditional from Xmas but was extremely soft and would melt in my mouth.

All this with Valados de Melgaço white wine and finished with 1990 Port from Dalva Wines.

“Very accepting and welcoming and an absolute vibe. I don’t have much need to say how wonderful this bar is the space is a little cramped but I still enjoyed it very much. If you’re looking for a fun time with fun people and happy legends this is the right spot. Drinks are not too expensive but they are a little higher than usual. But you pay for what want. They had drag queens come in and liven up the party. I had a Porto tonic for the first time. It was ok not the most amazing drink I’ve ever had honestly. But it was worth a try.“

“How is it that every week we say this is our favorite restaurant in Portugal then the next week, something tops it? Well king of the heap this week is Patio do Lo. I assume it’s proprietor Louis, is the namesake. Although his master chef whom we also met is named Louisa. Why quibble over trivial matters. Let’s eat!
And eat we did, we trusted Louis to make this an epic meal, and boy did he!
This place is classic Portuguese with thick exposed stone walls, an ample patio out back. We set near the kitchen, to check out the action.
We started with an amazing warm bread and homemade pimento butter with paprika also homemade tuna salad to spread over that delectable bread. A bowl of olives kept us from chewing the table as we were famished. We let Louis pick the wine and Game on!
The roasted salted peppers quickly followed then shorty the homemade chorizo on fire came. The waiter instructed me to turn it over a few times till we thought it was cooked. Then he expertly killed the flame, and scraped the burnt casing off most of the link then cut it for us to chow down on. My wife said maybe we could get a doggie back and take some home to make chorizo n eggs for breakfast. Not a chance! Perfectly spiced and unctuously fatty rich and meaty, we inhaled it! Just in time for the bacalhau fried crepes, to help sop us some of the chorizo richness. The next unexpected course was a pulled duck pot pie with fresh greens to accompany. Oh man it was richer than Françoise Bettencourt Meyers!
Just as we were thinking some time tonight we are gonna get that steak we ordered…
Nope a scotch egg was next. We never this dish had so while Louis expertly cut it in half he explained what it was all about. Basically art mixed with chef alchemy, decadence and booming with flavor.
As we sopped up the remaining bits of sriracha mayo, the main event finally arrived.
But before Louis put the wooden platter down, he explains to he wife,
“I know you don’t like very rare meat so if it’s not to you liking, I will ask the sachet to continue to cook it, are you willing to try to taste the way we think it’s best?”
Once she said a little scared.. “well… ok… The steak (for 2) was placed in front of us looking all sexy and very rare.
She took a bit with Louis paying very close attention to her reaction ready to pounce and send it back to the kitchen. No need, her eyes glazed over as she barely chewed her first bite. She sat back in her chair and swore out loud, “outrageous! It so good, how the heck… what… where did you learn to cook like this what planet do these cows live on?”
Louise chuckled and explained his theory of cooking and fine cuisine. We were getting a master class from a master while we ate THE BEST STEK IVE EVER EATEN.
While maintaining his panache he humbly introduced us to his master chef Louisa, and maintained while he curates and experiments she was the master.
Then the idea of dessert started bubbling up. But before they turned around to he dessert display I said no sir! I want that steak flavor to be the last thing on my palette. Louisa insisted that if we weren’t going to EAT dessert we should at least drink it.
Perplexed we listen to her explain that what she was going to give us was the their normal “hooch” as the haven’t done something with the sour cherries, but this was a good substitute. Stupidly nodding our heads we went along with it.
Then once the shot glasses were full, Louis took a lime and expertly squeezed some juice in each, then a dash of sea salt. I’m thinking ok this is like a tequila shot or something. Well it was a shot alright, but it was sweet. It only took a minute to register, this complex concoction tasted like I drank a key lime pie, crust n all. Brilliant.
The restaurant is very busy on weekends Louis quipped, because I said I’d be back for the prego sando the next day, my face plastered to the front glass w“
“We happened to stroll past Alibi and decided to have just a glass of wine, only to find ourselves staying for 5 or 6 hours! The staff were outstanding, and the food and wine selection were top-notch. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day to purchase some wine and ended up spending the entire afternoon there until midnight!
Bruno, with over 20 years of experience, is a true wine expert whose recommendations were consistently excellent. Eli and Rubin, our main waiters, were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and polite. We also sampled some of their dishes, including the cheese platter, steak, and seafood, all of which were fantastic.
Next time we're in Porto, Alibi will definitely be on our itinerary again!“

“First time in this wonderful house, excellent atmosphere, very welcoming and 5* staff, super helpful, friendly and very attentive.
For starters, some tasty and seasoned black olives.
We ate the “Bife à Bernardino”, a recommendation from one of the staff, a very well prepared dish, 1/2 is enough for a couple. (€15.75)
To finish in the best possible way, there is nothing better than a fresh, homemade and super tasty dessert, in this case, some “cream from heaven” (€2.60)
As I highlighted above, it was the first time but it won't be the last.
10/10“
