“I've been wanting to go to their store for a long time. I went to eat with my friends yesterday. It's really delicious 😋 The attitude of the two waitresses is super good. It's just that I saw a lot of ants at the door of the toilet, but because it's summer, I think it's better to be normal. I ordered BIBIMPAB DOLSOT. It was really delicious (and I almost didn't finish it). She will also give you a few side dishes (4) + 1 soup + 2 desserts (because I finally finished it and asked them where the dessert was, and then the waitresse asked me if I wanted to take it out because she saw that we were ready to pay the bill. So the attitude is really super good!) But his side dishes are not the same, so it depends on what you ordered.“

“Great neighbourhood restaurant offering a variety of classic Korean dishes. Family friendly and affordable. Food is always consistently good. They also have Korean beer and soju, which is appreciated at the end of the week!“

“Very vibey inside like you're in a street market in Asia. Also each table feels a little intimate in setting and there are wall separators so it's not too loud.

Each table has a range hood it's not too loud and it's super efficient I didn't come out with my clothes or hair smelling. You get a bunch of side dishes you can refill unlimited and the food was all really good. Our bibimbap bowl didn't have the crust at the bottom but they corrected the issue. The meat all tasted really good. We also ordered a marinated meat but got the unmarinated and was charged unmarinated meat so nbd but I would say to double check your order to be sure it's what you got and up to your standard. They're accommodating.

Service was great, you can flag down any server and ask for what you need.

We got the short ribs, pork Jowl, pork shoulder. All delicious, different, tender. Various sauces too. Next time, I'd probably not get the bibimbap and just more meat.“

“Wow - who thought that Montreal would have amazing and cheap Korean food? It’s hidden inside the basement of an apartment building too. The pork bone soup was cheap and very filling / flavorful. Service was excellent as well. Huge portions for the price. Highly recommend.“

“Absolutely awesome food! We were a group of 10 who all ordered a bunch of different plates and everything was great! I tried 4 different vegan options and everything was very tasty and well priced. We were very impressed by the chef who clearly has a lot of talent and puts a lot of care into what he cooks.“

“Had a nice experience here! The bibimbap and kimchi tofu soup were really delicious and definitely the highlights of the meal. The beef short ribs were also quite good—flavorful and well cooked.

The only downside was the fried chicken. It wasn’t very crispy, and oddly, it had a slightly bitter taste. Not sure what caused that. Other than that, everything else was enjoyable!“

When I searched up “Korean food in Montreal” during my intense craving for warm, comforting, asian food in a new city, this place popped up on multiple lists, recommendations, and Google Maps. After a long day and a light stroll through Old Montreal, I finally had the chance to(and was determined to) come here on Friday evening. I was kind of concerned that I wasn’t going to get in because 1) I’ve had multiple occasions of restaurants turning me away well before their closing time in Montreal (Which is still a mystery I’m) trying to solve 🤣😅, and 2) Well, it’s Friday night! Luckily, I was able to get in after a short 5-minute wait, and although I was a lone wolf and would be perfectly content with being tucked away in the corner with a small table to myself, the (who I later found out to be) Owner ended up seating me in a big table by myself- felt kind of guilty, but also so kind!

The drinks and the food came out very quickly, I wont touch on the beer, because beer is beer lol, but the Spicy Pork Grill….first of all, the HUGE portion that only came out to $21?! In this economy? Secondly, the intense sizzling sound as the dish came out of the kitchen was enough to claim its #1 spot, but above all - the rich marinade without being too salty, the onions that cut through and help balance the fattiness of the pork, the perfectly cooked warm and fluffy rice…I honestly can conjure up the taste and how the dish made me feel just through writing this review. I had intended to pack 1/2 of it to go for my hotel room later, I promise, I did. I ended up walking out with a full and satisfying belly and a completely empty plate 🫣🤣

When I was paying, I chatted with the owner (well, the daughter of the owner), who told me how she used to live in Vancouver (I’m visiting from Vancouver), and just generally a bit about the history of the place. I feel such warmth and comfort from the food and hospitality - which, when you’re in a city/ place for the first time, is truly an irreplaceable feeling.

“I’ve been numerous times to Giwa in the past year and I never leave disappointed. The food is truly excellent. They are always offer additional seasonal menus. For example, this summer, we really enjoyed their dwaeji galbi. Also, they had a tasting menu during New Year, which was fantastic. Don’t forget to try their desserts! The service is good, they always give descriptions of each meal. The staff is very friendly.“

“I’ve been coming here for a few years now, mainly for their onigiri. They are always fresh, filling, and consistently good. I finally tried the bibimbap today and I can’t believe I waited this long. I got the beef one and it was amazing. It was very flavorful, well balanced, and really comforting.

“I was getting followed by a potentially dangerous creepy man on the group and had to seek shelter immediately. I went into Restaurant Itaewon and asked the waiter for help (댑빵 i think was the name written on the back of his shirt) he was very helpful and told me I can stay there for as long as I needed and escorted me out just to make sure I was safe. Also ordered a drink on the menu and it was delicious. He took the time to explain what everything on the menu was and was extremely kind.

“I am so glad I came here, it was so delicious. The service was so nice, the lady was so sweet and attentive the whole time. my boyfriend took a bite of the chicken and said it was better than any chicken he’s had so far, ate the cream jjampong and declared that this is probably his favourite restaurant from now on, and finally ate the soba noodles and sashimi and said that it was the true korean flavour. I was really impressed at the taste of all the food, the flavours were unique in a very good way. even though we are only two, and that i have an appetite of a mouse, we managed to finish everything without leaving anything behind. i’m definitely coming back next time.“

“I’m an Englishman who lives in Australia who took over from Vancouver for a four days and happened to find this place which is a hidden gem. Go up the steep steps and open the heavy door and go inside and you’ll find a very clean and warm and welcoming restaurant. Serve in a hot bow,l I recommend that you let the rice crisp up at the bottom before mixing the egg. The service was great too. I forgot the name of the drink but it was very good. It's the one made from Soju and yuzu. It's a small place with a soft atmosphere. Next time I'm in Montreal I will absolutely eat there again.“

*Original review: Absolutely outstanding. The food is superior to any other Korean BBQ in Montreal, but most importantly the service is exemplary. Any restaurant should learn from this restaurant: the staff makes sure that you are enjoying your meal, they change the grill often, they are in a great mood and they never pressure you to 'stop ordering'. In fact, we felt as if they wanted us to enjoy as much as we wanted.

From the moment we made the reservation to the moment we left, Christopher made sure we enjoyed the whole experience.

However, it took a long time for them to hand out menus and take our order because it was a busy night (Twice concert at Bell Centre) and they were understaffed. Luckily, food came out quickly. “It's a really great fried chicken spot and I personally liked it a lot. Most of the chicken was really tasty and crispy, but I felt like the drumsticks weren’t as well seasoned as the other pieces. The only downside is the two-person tables are a bit small, which makes it a little tight when you’re eating. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend it and would come back again to try more.“
