Gala Cafe & Bakery Reviews
Disappointed to say this isn’t a great spot to work from—despite what it could be.
I called ahead to confirm the Wi-Fi was working, but when I arrived, it wasn’t. I ordered a meal and coffee intending to get work done, only to realize I couldn’t stay. This isn’t the first time this has happened, and it’s the reason I stopped coming in the past.

Stopped here yesterday for the first time. I don’t live in Charleston but only came for the symphony. It was my daughter’s birthday and we wanted to treat her to something special. Gala Cafe & Bakery offers a mix of experiences for its visitors. While some have found the salads and Panini disappointing, many enjoy the pastries, service, and atmosphere. A recent Mother's Day tea was praised for its wonderful scones, selection of teas, sandwiches, and desserts. The service was noted to be great, allowing guests to relax without feeling rushed. Visitors recommend booking a reservation for the tea, as the restaurant is not large, although there is an outside patio available.
The chocolate brownie and cookies and cream cake continue to be highlighted for their excellent taste, despite some mixed feelings about the iced coffee. The atmosphere is quaint, with a lovely courtyard and personable staff, making it a nice spot for treats and coffee. Guests have also enjoyed the craft cocktails prepared at the bar and the delightful experience of live music. A visitor raved about the peanut butter mousse, describing it as absolutely delicious. Overall, Gala Cafe & Bakery remains a charming place with some hits and misses on the menu, but many are eager to return.
