It’s one of those places. The place smashes expectations. The food is hands down, the best Mexican food (need to add tip the cook on the check). Affordability of a early 2000s restaurant. Have eaten here 15x times the past few months and do not plan on stopping any time soon. 5 stars.
My husband and I love El Matate! We stopped in one day 5 years ago and haven’t stopped going at least once a week since. The food is delicious! Everything on the menu is delicious! The owner and his wife as well as the servers are so welcoming and friendly! My husband loves fresh cut onions and they always accommodate him on his orders. I recommend this Mexican restaurant to all my friends!

We done here often and love it! It's kind of a "hole-in-the-wall", next door to a seedy motel but worth the visit. The food is great and the service second-to-none. I do wish they would get on the "happy hour" or "drink special" train but I still highly recommend.
