About Scholz Garten

Scholz Garten is an Austin institution known for serving great food, including their popular German sausage board and large pretzels. This historic restaurant has been around for over 100 years and offers an authentic German experience, featuring a vast outdoor area with live bands, making it a great Austin pub. The menu includes tasty options like veal schnitzel, brat, and the bratwurst sampler plate, along with the best Ruben sandwich and Jagerschnitzel. Customers have praised the smoked/fried wings, although the selection may be limited during big events. The restaurant boasts a great beer selection with both local and German options, ensuring there are plenty of choices for guests. While the atmosphere can feel a bit run down and warm inside, it remains a charming spot with rich history and a lively vibe, enhanced by friendly staff who provide sweet service. The food is consistently good—well-made and satisfying—making it a popular hangout for friends, families, and college kids alike. With plenty of space available, it works well for groups or just stopping in. The giant pretzel is a must-order and really does serve 3-4 people, while the waffle fries are crispy and great. Scholz Garten is a place where everything on the menu is delicious and affordable, making it a favorite for many.

Absolutely one of the best German spots in Texas, maybe even the entire country. I wasn't even in the mood for German food but it was close by and man, did it deliver. Pretzels, sausages, beers, red cabbage.... all fantastic. The only miss was they had tacked on a service charge without mentioning it. I obviously caught it, so check your bill before tipping. Otherwise a very memorable dining experience.

I’m a regular here and it’s amazing everytime!

Went there before a concert at Moody Center. Good place to have a beer.
