West China Tea House Reviews
The 2013 “attention” raw puerh is really good
One of the coolest things I've done in Austin! Booked an "experience", got a magnificent room and sat for several pours of a variety of teas. Completely exceeded expectations, and not just the tea, which was like nothing I've ever tasted. Owner So Han even entertained with a little music on an authentic Chinese wind instrument, what I think was called a "Hulusi".
We'll be back! I'll be bringing my friends...
The Tea, the process, the presentation, the decor, the ritual, the people AND the owner are ALL top shelf...

The West China Tea House is a cozy and welcoming establishment that offers an authentic Gong Fu Cha tea experience. The staff are knowledgeable and provide excellent service, making it a great place for newcomers to learn about Chinese tea culture. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the tea prices are very affordable. The venue also hosts fun events and has a friendly, community-oriented vibe. Customers have recently noted that the tea house is regularly getting in new teas, including a great selection of straight teas like green, oolong, and red/black, as well as herbal options from a local supplier.
Visitors have praised the friendly and informative staff, who share their knowledge about teas, preparation techniques, and the origins of different varieties. The tea-drinking experience is described as tranquil and enjoyable, with the opportunity to try a variety of teas and learn about the nuances of each type. The tea bars offer a great variety of tea service, with some options available only for purchase. Those who find a tea they particularly enjoy can receive a 10% discount on purchasing it to take home.
The West China Tea House is set to move to a new location on E. 7th St. in mid-December, with some customers excited to see the transformation taking place. They encourage others to visit the current venue before the transition, especially since the original location has been extended until December 15th. Visitors can enjoy private table service or a communal tea bar, where the intricate tea ceremony is performed. It is a superb place to sample and learn about Chinese tea from real friendly experts, making it an all-around great third place to socialize and meet new people.
