“When I saw this place call itself an Izakaya I came with high hopes, as when I was in Japan our home was very near an amazing Izakaya and a Yakatori restaurant that we went to under our train station in Osaka.

This place is a little different than what I was hoping for/expecting

The food was ok, the menu has a lot. But it was more of a sushi place with some Izakaya/Yakatori mainstays

I was hoping for Tsukune, tebaski, sunagimo in addition to the kaarage and tonkatsu

So to focus on what I did have:

Tonkatsu: was pretty good came on a plate with the pork cutlet and lightly topped with tonkatsu sauce with some partly fried potatoes and a couple slices of cucumber and tomato, the pork was cooked well and was juicy, the breading was not quite crunchy, not sure if they use shokupan or if it's a freshness issue, the breading did easily separate from the pork

I also ordered chicken yakatori and pork Yakatori, they came on a plate with lemons and shredded cabbage

The chicken was cooked well, the sauce they used (tare?) was flavorful and I enjoyed them, a tad well done

I did not enjoy the pork, it was tough and dry

I also ordered some unagi sashimi, which came with some ginger and wasabi (a bit milder and sweeter than I expected)

The unagi was cooked well and served warm and was very tasty

I would like to come back and try the Una don or katsu don, a table next to us ordered it and it looked really good, will update if I try it again.

“This restaurant has amazing food. Every time we’ve been we’ve enjoyed our meal. My daughter loves sushi so we go occasionally. My favorite is an off menu roll called Monica Vegas. Their cold Lychee sake is to die for.“

“Excellent food for the prices! Ive had to update my ratings. I think anyone looking for some great tasty Chinese food to-go will find they do NOT disappoint. This is not really a sit-down restaurant, but they have added some tables and chairs. The General Tso chicken is prob THE BEST I've ever ever had, and it's to go!!!! The chicken is crispy under the sauce and is not soggy. It is sooooo good!! The sesame chicken is one of my go-to dishes for lunch time. The beef and broccoli is always good and one of my go-to dishes. The black pepper steak is pretty much the same as the beef and broccoli but with bell peppers and onions, which I prefer. You have the option of getting white rice or Fried rice with your dishes, its not full of flavor, but it was not oily either, so I prefer that. The white flat noodles, think it was Pad ke mao, and it was very tasty with a little heat. My new fav hole in the wall, I would definitely come back again. “The Shrimp Teriyaki was good. I do wish the salad wasn’t put with the hot food. It makes it hot too and mushy. The big bowl with extra veggies doesn’t travel well and there aren’t many veggies on this like advertised, and didn’t taste that well. It was soupy. The lettuce wraps were okay. I still recommend this place.“

From the moment we sat down, the staff was attentive without hovering, drinks stayed filled, and the rolls came out quickly even with a decent crowd in the dining room. You can tell the front of house takes pride in how they run the place. Timing between courses was right, questions about the menu got real answers instead of guesses, and checkout was quick and painless. That level of attention alone makes it worth a return visit.

The sushi itself was solid but not exceptional. Rolls were fresh, the rice was properly seasoned, and portions were fair for the price, but nothing on the plate separated it from the other sushi options in the area. The fundamentals are all there, and the presentation was clean, it just needs a little more ambition from the kitchen to match what the service is already delivering. If that gap closes, this becomes one of the best spots around. I will be back either way.“

“this is one of the first restaurants I went to in Austin. 5 years ago and its still a favorite. love the vibe, it's never too busy, the food is delicious and the owners are nice. Today my pregnancy baby brain kicked in and I forgot my purse there and didn't notice for over 2 hours, they set it aside for me at their reserved table so no one would take it. Love drunk fish ❤❤“
