About Night Rooster

Night Rooster is a restaurant that offers a unique blend of Chinese-inspired dishes with Texas twists, set in a moody and stylish atmosphere. Located at 1000 N. Riverfront in the Dallas Design District, the space features dim lighting, red booth seating, gold accents, and deliberate decorative touches like butterflies and florals, creating an inviting and immersive environment. The restaurant is renowned for its exceptional food, friendly service, and memorable ambiance.

Chef Shirley Chung, a former TV personality and a survivor of stage IV tongue cancer, played a key role in curating the menu. Her journey of overcoming illness and returning to her passion is reflected in the thoughtful, flavor-rich dishes served here. The menu includes standout dishes like the Duck Fat wonton, Cheeseburger potsticker, Tea smoked duck, Duck fries rice, and Crispy orange chicken, all earning five-star praise. The Wagyu cheeseburger potstickers are a highlight, featuring Wagyu beef and bacon tomato jam inside a dumpling—a deliberate culinary choice that elevates the dish beyond gimmick. The tea-smoked duck, brined and smoked with jasmine tea and hickory, paired with complex plum sauce, is often mentioned as a must-try. Other favorites include lobster and shrimp air eggrolls, chili oil-spiced dishes, and the innovative Cacio e Sichuan Pepe pasta, blending carbonara with Sichuan peppercorns.

Service is attentive and warm, with staff often going above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. Guests appreciate the thoughtful atmosphere, great portions, and the chance to enjoy a culinary journey that combines meticulous technique with innovative flavors. Night Rooster is a place where extraordinary moments are created, sometimes with the simplest act—a rooster crowing into the dark until the sun returns.

Came in for a birthday party of 6 and was treated like royalty by Rolando.

Chef Shirley Chung was there and came out to greet us. It was a miraculous moment and I will cherish meeting her and the food that she has curated. She us every bit as nice and humble as I have seen on TV.

Thank you for hosting us.
We will be back.

Food, service, and atmosphere was a 10/10. We went here for Father’s Day and Jessica (our server) really MADE the experience. We had someone with a tree nut allergy and Jessica fortunately or unfortunately also has the same exact allergy which worked out really well. The only downside was how dark it is to find the bathrooms but other than that, it was a phenomenal experience and would absolutely go back!

There is a Chinese folktale that Night Rooster takes its name from. A heroic archer shoots down eight of the nine suns burning the earth. The final sun retreats in fear. The world goes dark. And despite every effort by every person who tries to call the light back, it is only the persistent, stubborn, completely ordinary crow of a rooster that finally does it. That's the whole story. A rooster, crowing into the dark until the sun comes back.
