We never have a bad meal at Shinsei. The service overall was very good, and the ambiance very nice. It was a big wedding anniversary for us, and we definitely picked this restaurant for a reason.
We had pre-ordered the “Chef Tasting Dinner” for our party of six and had an absolutely fantastic evening! We had no idea what to expect until we arrived at our table — there we found a very descriptive menu of our four course tasting at each place setting. Each course had several items, giving us an opportunity to sample many of Shinsei's specialties. This was a great experience, we will definitely do it again!
Loved our visit. We sat in Madi's section and from her personality to her menu suggestions we had a wonderful experience!
Shinsei offers a mix experience; while there may be confusion regarding waitstaff and slow wine service, the sushi bar stands out with fresh and unique sushi, served by attentive staff. The food is enjoyable, with highlights such as the steamed dumplings of the day, short rib potstickers, and salmon sashimi. Many guests recommend the Dumpling Sampler when available and praise the Peking Duck. Reservations are advised, especially as the courtyard room is preferred for a quieter dining experience. Service can be hit or miss, but the management, including owner Lanae, has been responsive to feedback. The adorable Neko & Inu chopstick holders are available for sale as mementos. Guests have described the food as consistently fresh and savory, with many returning for the amazing sushi and overall enjoyable experience. Special mention goes to the Chocolate Cake Spring Rolls and the crispy rice with tuna, which enhance the dining experience at this Dallas gem.
