“This one was slightly harder to rate than usual because the owner's wife was in the hospital the day I visited and they only had bbq beans and potato salad. I got both the chicken and brisket plates.

The chicken was outstanding, I was surprised by how juicy and tender it was and the flavor was excellent...barely needed bbq sauce. The brisket has stiff competition given how good Texas brisket is...if it was anywhere else I'd give the brisket a 5 but compared to Texas a 4/5. Seasoning was perfect but the meat was just a tad less tender than texas fatty brisket. Sides were good and dependable.

I thought the portions were small. A $20 brisket plate with about a 1/3 lb of brisket is expensive, as is a leg quarter plate for $16. For that price I think a half bird is more reasonable.

I'm giving this a 5 because the smoker outside was giving out good vibes and the gentleman behind the counter was more welcoming than most. This place is indeed soul food.”

“My husband planned a surprise birthday party for me on a Friday, there was a party of maybe 25-30 possibly more and our waiter Anthony was absolutely AMAZING! He let us know this was his first big table, and he handled everyone and everything so effortlessly. Thank you Anthony for making this an even better time. Food and drinks were amazing! Entertainment by Chase Richburg was awesome! 10/10 recommend!”

“Remembered this place from an ealier visit and knew the service was outstanding as well as the food. The morning after my arrival I drove an hour from Galveston for 6 a.m. breakfast and was welcomed very friendly by Amanda at that early hour. The barbacoa plate I ordered was very tasteful and even better than expected. Well worth the drive and the breakfast was a great start of the day watching the sun rise over the Gulf afterwards as a nice bonus. Recommended”
