Candente Reviews
Best Tex mex I’ve ever had
The best Tex Mex in Houston, in my opinion. Fantastic fajitas and enchiladas (get the La Bandera and try one of each type and thank me later!), and the salsas are out of this world. We drive in from the suburbs at least once a month to eat here because it's our favorite!
We’ve been spoiled by having La Casona right down the street from our house. I saw Candente boasted as the best Tex Mex someone had every had, on a friends post recently so I had to try it. From the chips and salsa, to the mezcal margarita to the Birria tacos and chicken verde and enchiladas… this was some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Totally recommend!!

Candente is a restaurant offering flavorful Tex Mex food, including highly-rated enchiladas with cheese, beef, and chicken options, as well as brisket and nachos. The service is attentive, with servers like Drew providing fantastic care to guests. The portion sizes are generous, although some customers feel the prices could reflect more food. The atmosphere is laid-back and chic, though the decor shows some wear and tear. The restaurant is also known for its fantastic fajitas and salsas, which are considered some of the best in Houston. Many customers drive in from the suburbs to enjoy the food regularly, especially on Tuesday nights when the large fajita is the same price as the medium. The food here was delicious, with skirt steak fajitas that are tender and well-prepared, but the restaurant can be loud and smoky from fajitas. Drinks, including house margaritas that some find too sweet, are only refilled once or twice during a visit, especially when busy. Overall, Candente delivers bold Tex-Mex flavors, with dishes like brisket nachos that are smoky, cheesy, and piled high. The menu also features other favorites like chile Relleno and chili lime shrimp, which add variety and excitement. While the atmosphere is lively, the decor shows some wear, and some diners find certain dishes overly spicy, limiting their choices. Parking is available in a garage behind the restaurant.
