“Great little joint. Hard to tell it’s a few blocks from the Gulf of Mexico. The bar is populated by a crew of hard-core regulars who know each other very well. Athena, the day bartender, messes with them while slinging beers and drinks effortlessly with efficiency and a little good-natured sass. “We always loved the service Drew gave us at our local Chili's and when he told us that he started working part-time at The Monkey Bar we thought that we would give it a try. We really didn't know what kind of place it was, Monkey Bar says Bar, but we wanted to try something different. We were actually surprised when we walked into this quaint little hangout with lots of friendly locals who were more than happy to welcome us. The staff, even the owner, were attentive to every customers needs. At first we were concerned about the cigarette smoke, but it didn't take long to notice that they have an excellent circulation system that keeps the air clean so I didn't even notice! You can order a variety of appetizers and other dishes for lunch and dinner but decided on some pretty good boudin egg rolls and some cold beers while we shot a few games of pool. We enjoyed our first visit and plan on going back to try something from the lunch or dinner selection soon.“
“It’s a nice locally owned, come as you are bar. Places like this are getting harder to find nowadays. When they have music on the back patio and the outside bar open, it’s nice, overlooks the bayou. Lots of wildlife. If you want more action go inside. Usually a local band or DJ and almost always folks dancing. Drink prices are some of the best around“

“Usually this is my favorite Greek place. Unfortunately my favorite dish, Saganaki the flaming cheese, tasted like very old oil. We also got the sampler platter and it was good for the most part, the spankapita had the same old oil taste and was inedible.“

They have almost every type of liquor, filling up the shelves completely. “I really enjoy going to a Mexican restaurant that has more options than the usual stuff.If you are ever in Kemah or in that area, I would highly recommend the spot.Last year, when I went on a cruise, I stayed at the hotel next door and tried this restaurant because they had vegetarian options and I happen to be a vegetarian.I was not disappointed in the least and that's why I made sure to stay at the same hotel this year so I could walk over in the morning and get some tacos before going on the cruise.Not a very big place but the food is awesome.“
