La Calavera Garbancera Reviews
Everything from food to decorations were very good. Had a Good Friday dinner.
It had been a while that we explored a New Mexican restaurant in San Antonio and this one was a BIG hit❣️ The food options were amazing, as soon as you sit down the service was very individualized. This is what I told our server Nayeli- we just spent a week in Cancun and this meal at Calavera Garbacera was the better than anything we’d eaten all week. The atmosphere is artsy, the serving dishes also complemented the food💝 We will definitely be back🫶🏼 Y el postre❣️¡Chocoflan...read full review

La Calavera Garbancera is a restaurant in San Antonio, known for its vibrant atmosphere and exceptional Mexican cuisine. The portions are large, and the flavors are authentic, reflecting the owners' roots in Veracruz, Mexico. Customers praise the affordability and the deliciousness of dishes like chilaquiles with beans, quesobirria, and vampiro tacos filled with slow-roasted meat, served with fresh onions, cilantro, radishes, and lime. The ambiance feels like stepping into a cafe in Mexico, creating a warm and inviting setting. The restaurant offers a variety of flavorful salsas, and the pineapple agua fresca is often highlighted as the best ever. Service is attentive, welcoming, and considerate, enhancing the overall experience. Many visitors enjoy the Cafe De olla and the flavorful tortas, including the Garbancera torta. The food was incredible. Soft chilaquiles was something unique, and the mango agua fresca was enjoyed. The mini tacos were hands-down a favorite — perfectly savory, tender, and never overcooked. Every bite was fresh and full of flavor, and the homemade corn tortillas took it to another level. Their salsas are out of this world — with a salsa verde that’s perfect even if you can’t handle much spice. The staff were so kind and attentive, making guests feel truly welcome. This is the first place that got the consomé for the birria absolutely right. The waitress was sweet, attentive, and welcoming. This place is a must-visit for those seeking genuine Mexican food in San Antonio.
