“Did not get half my groceries at pickup tonight. Have not had time to run back up there yet so I have been trying to call. First time it rang 15 min then they picked up and hung up. Now it’s been ringing almost an hour. So much for customer service desk,…..“

“Don't you love it when you discover something that is so completely amazing that you feel compelled to tell all your friends about it? That is this place, and since I don't have many friends in this neck of the woods, I'm adopting ya'll so please read this because this place is beyond Legit. As a writer who operates best after 9pm, I had not yet found occasion to try this breakfast / lunch Deli. I had not eaten anything the previous day (I mentioned I am writer, right?)and awoke this afternoon with my stomach going trinity project circa 1945. I got out of bed and began thinking of the spots I could go eat which would produce the largest caloric return on my last $25. It is not quite egg noodles ala Olio time at the Barela residence, but she's coming over tomorrow. So in the shower I heard an ad for Arby's and then it struck me. It's only 2pm and that cute little deli across the way is open daily until 3pm. I walk in and instantly feel NYC. Narrow, Long, tables up front, service counter in back, chef at the register, Audrey Hepburn on the wall, as I wait in a short line I'm thinking baby this might be a gem. I was not wrong. In my famished haste, I arrived sans glasses. I could mostly read the menu board from the line, but the numbers on the pricing were too blurry. Whatever, NY style deli means Pasrami, means Corned Beef, means Kraut, marbled rye, Swiss. $25 bucks should cover it right, I thought, might have to be a little chintzy on the tip, eh it's counter service, I'm good with it. As I walk up to the counter the woman waiting is served her salad. I sneak a peek and it looks like a Greek Salad covered with sliced gyros meat except portioned for the Achaean army. It was bigger than she was. Maybe I want tha... 'And for you sir,' said the chef from behind the register. Rushing my self because I'm now at the front of the line in a deli in a New York state of mind I look up at the Chef, Corned Beef Reuben please. I'm sorry Sir, we are just out of Corned Beef. We have Pastrami, he says. Just as good to me, I'll take it with the chips and drink combo. Yes sir he says, that will be $11.65. Confused, I think to myself 11.65, does he know I want the full sammy? Whatever, stop holding up line. I hand him a $20. He hands me change and a cup for my drink. I look down, no tip jar. Really, no tip jar, combos under $12, I'm thinking what is up with this joint? I'm getting a half sandwich I know it. Then I see To Go menus by the soda machine as I'm filling up my Coke. Top of the Grilled Sandwich section Pastrami Reuben $6.99. lower down the menu Chips and Drink combo $3.59. The lady's Euro Salad $10.99, the most expensive thing on the menu. Cheese Burger $5.99 yes with a 5. Fuhhgetaboutit, tomorrow, since I still have money, it's Greek Salad or Burger time, bet. A few mins go by and the Chef hands me a bag with my food, asks me if I got my chips to which I say no, so he points me in their direction. There she is, Mrs.. Vickers Jalepeno all day every day, son. Try them, they're not hot. So good. I thanked the chef and he said the most amazing thing to me, something you will never hear a chef in NY say. He said, Before you go be sure to refill your drink. He might as well have said There's no place like home and told me to click the heels of my worn out Chuck's, because Dorothy here, was back in Texas, For Real. The Pastrami Reuben which I enjoyed on their sidewalk patio, was Indeed a full sized sandwich and as delicious as any I've ever had. But I still wish I had gone for the Gyros Greek Salad. It was beautiful. But like Shirley Temple said ,Tommorow.“
