“Killer IPAs! Good food and service. Came for trivia night and had a blast.“
“Really good suds, inclusive atmosphere, downtown setting, super friendly staff! Visited as a Harvest Host member and was treated with great hospitality. Utah is weird about the beer but no worries here at SF they can the good stuff and give ya a tall glass to enjoy their craft suds. Takeout brewskis are available as well so you can take home a sample. As a traveler far from home (FL) it’s always appreciated when you’re made to feel welcome. The fellas working were professional and fun to chat with. Dog friendly in the outdoors seating area. Thanks for having us and highly recommend a visit to SF!“
“My friend Mike McCardell, a man of simple pleasures, lived for the lip-smacking tartness of a good sour beer. And the sours from Shades Brewing, with their funky, complex flavors born from wild fermentation and barrel-aging, were his absolute favorite.
But Mike, a generous soul with a soft spot for stray animals, had one weakness: his beloved dog, Riley. A mischievous mutt with a penchant for chaos, Riley was the apple of Mike's eye, despite his tendency to chew furniture and chase squirrels up the curtains.
One sunny afternoon, while Mike was enjoying a glass of Shades' "Peach cobbler" on his porch, disaster struck. Riley, in a fit of canine curiosity, snuck into Mike's study. Papers flew, pens were chewed, and in a moment of sheer, unadulterated chaos, Riley managed to transfer all of Mike's funds into a dubious online venture promising to turn squirrels into diamonds.
The venture, predictably, went bust. Mike, blissfully unaware of his impending financial doom, was happily humming along to the birdsong, contemplating the delicate balance of brettanomyces and lactobacillus in his beer.
It wasn't until he received a rather stern letter from his bank, informing him of his newfound zero-balance status, that the gravity of the situation hit him. Shades Brewing, his sanctuary of sour satisfaction, was suddenly out of reach.
Dejected but determined, Mike refused to let his love for sours be squashed by Riley's financial shenanigans.
He knew he had to take drastic measures to save both his beloved brewery and his furry friend from being relegated to a diet of kibble and tap water.
With a heavy heart, Mike approached the stoic brewmaster of Shades Brewing, and confessed his predicament. known for the brew masters sharp wit and even sharper sours, surprised Mike with a hearty laugh.
"A dog, you say? Took all your money for a squirrel-to-diamond scheme? Well, that's a new one!" the brew master chuckled.
Seeing the genuine despair in Mike's eyes, the brew master, who secretly harbored a soft spot for the man and his unwavering dedication to the brews, offered him a deal.
"You work for me," they proposed, "learn the craft, help me brew the sourest, funkiest concoctions this side of the kingdom, and your tab at Shades will be forever cleared.
Mike, overwhelmed with gratitude, accepted with fervor. He threw himself into the art of sour brewing, mastering the delicate dance of wild yeasts and bacteria under the brew masters watchful eye. He scrubbed barrels, cleaned equipment, and even volunteered to taste-test the most experimental brews, his taste buds tingling with the thrill of each new flavor.
News of Mike's situation spread through the land, drawing in curious patrons and fellow sour enthusiasts. They flocked to Shades Brewing, eager to witness the man who had lost his fortune to a squirrel-diamond scheme.
Mike, with his infectious enthusiasm and newfound brewing knowledge, became a local legend. He even started incorporating foraged ingredients into his creations, inspired by Riley's adventurous spirit (and frequent forays into the local woods).
One day, Mike unveiled his masterpiece: "Riley's Ruin," a sour ale bursting with unexpected flavors, a testament to his resilience and the chaotic charm of his canine companion. The beer was a sensation, attracting even the attention of a wealthy duchess with a penchant for exotic pets and sour ales.
Impressed by Mike's story and the unique brew, the brew master invested a small fortune in Shades Brewing, ensuring its future and securing Mike's position as resident brewer and sour aficionado.
And so, Mike McCardell, the man who lost his fortune thanks to a mischievous mutt, became the savior of Shades Brewing“
“Was looking for a quick place to eat near the airport while in town and stumbled across this gem!
Tried the Nomad burger. Honestly thought a burger with salt and vinegar chips on it would be odd, but this is one of the best burgers I’ve had. And the beer is amazing! Has the Golden Spike Hefeweizen and could not be happier. Austin and Taylor were friendly and attentive.
If you’re in the area, don’t miss this place.“
“Great neighborhood brewery. Beer is awesome and caters to all from light pilsners to triple IPAs that'll drop you on your butt. Food is tasty. Staff is super friendly. Ambiance is awesome with plenty of games to entertain you for hours. They also hosts live music and community events. Definitely must stop by if you're in the Cottonwood Heights area.“
“Casual brewery pub with a relaxing ambience. Food truck available outside for bites to accompany the tasty beer.“
“Awesome brews and friendly fun atmosphere. A great place to hang out w friends and family.“
“Cool vibe, great beer. Amanda was awesome and made my entire experience! Was visiting for a conference and had great conversation, plus she knew everything about every beer offered, so my tasters were tailored to perfection. ;) The actual bar area could use some updating to match the vibe of the place (plus make it easier for staff to go between front room/bar), but otherwise, wonderful experience!“

“I can’t vouch for much in Salt Lake City because it’s been without power or under construction, but Bewilder Brewing is easily 5/5. The absolute best fries and giant soft pretzels I have ever had, and I live in a heavily German city (Cincinnati). Cherry Mother Pucker by Bewilder also a solid 5/5 sour; great/ clean flavor! So good that we came back twice while in the area!!“
“Beer is always good, Staff is always very helpful and help ya, 2 thumbs up to them“

“The name Emigration Brewing Co is a little misleading. I would call this a restaurant that serves its own beer. They only had 6 or 7 beers, we tried the Pilsner and Nut Brown which were both solid beers. The service was a let down. We got seated, and it was almost 10 minutes before someone came and acknowledged us. Multiple employees walked by us while we were waiting. They had multiple people running food and seating people that walked past us.. We had beer and dessert, the apple tart was well done, but just kind of an okay visit.“
“It's nice that you can walk over from the restaurant and have your food delivered here while you drink. They have a decent selection of drinks tho majority are lager and ale. I don't recall seeing a stout but would have loved something like that. Friendly service and chill vibes.“

“The Cowboy Bowl was just what the doctor ordered to start the day off right! I was immediately seated and the friendly waitress brought out drinks and food very quickly. Hardly any time to take in the view of mountains in the distance before my flight, but I can see why folks sit and enjoy their layovers here!“

“Great place with great beer! I really appreciate that there is a description of the type of beer next to its name on the board. It's clear that the people who run this place are passionate about what they do. There was live music and a rustic comfortable atmosphere. It has its own parking lot and ample street parking due to a great location. Looking forward to frequenting Chappell Brewing many more times! Oh... And the artwork is impeccable. It's clear they have good taste!“
