“I really love the food here. It’s consistently outstanding, and I appreciate having something that feels different from the usual lineup of fast-food and fast-casual restaurants. The food itself is easily the strongest part of the experience.
The service is generally friendly and decent, although there’s definitely some room for improvement. For example, if I refer to the bed of cabbage that many of the entrees are served on, it seems like surprisingly often that the person taking my order doesn’t know what I’m talking about.
The last couple of times I’ve visited, I’ve also tried to order the side of mixed vegetables because my wife needs a gluten-free option, only to find that they were out. I completely understand that restaurants occasionally run out of something, but this seems to happen often enough that it’s frustrating. If an item is going to be unavailable that frequently, I’d almost rather see it removed from the menu so customers know what to expect and can make their dining choices accordingly.
That said, the employees are generally friendly, which I do appreciate, and the atmosphere is comfortable.
My biggest complaint—and the thing that ultimately costs this place a star for me—is the tipping setup, particularly at the drive-thru. I understand that this is technically fast-casual and that some people choose to tip. That’s completely their prerogative. But when I’m going through a drive-thru, ordering food, and having someone hand it to me through a window, I view that transaction the same way I would at Del Taco, Burger King, or any other counter-service restaurant. There hasn’t been any additional service for me to tip for.
What I especially dislike is having the card reader handed out the window with a tip prompt appearing before I’ve even received my food. It creates an awkward, unspoken expectation that I simply don’t think belongs in a drive-thru transaction. Tips traditionally recognize service that has actually been provided; asking for one before the customer has even been served feels backward.
I wish they would rethink that part of the experience, because I genuinely enjoy the restaurant and will continue coming back for the food. And the POG juice. Without the constant tip prompt at the drive-thru—and with a little more consistency in menu availability—this would be an easy five-star experience for me.“
