They should ask for their money back from the interior designer. It used to be a bright lovely space, but now feels like it was redesigned by a moody Starbucks employee. Strikingly, the coasters for the new rolling chairs are lying about broken on the floor; gone are comfy seats--bare wood and terra cotta colored walls now dominate the atmosphere. If you want to sit in the dark and feel moody then this is your place.
I love the decor and lighting at this cafe, you can't beat the atmosphere anywhere in Alexandria. The last few times I've visited the staff seem really depressed/frustrated though. Most recently I ordered some pastries which were upside down in a bag that the server slammed on the counter without announcing they were ready. If St Elmo's fixed the morale problem, it would be one of the best cafes in the DC area.
Had the chai latte and all I can say is that ill be back! 👍👍. Atmosphere is a bit chaotic on the weekend , which is to be expected. Id love to see what a weekday looks like. Highly recommend.
