As fans of Persian cuisine and frequent shoppers at Yekta Market in Rockville— having recently tried our hand at making Persian dishes like Fesenjan at home— coupled with all of the culinary accolades— we had high expectations for JOON. It not only met but exceeded them. Mast-o Musir, yogurt dish with Persian dried shallot and rose petal, was exceptional— more elevated and nuanced than any we’ve had. The mushroom Khoresht stew with white truffle was another highlight, offering perfectly balanced flavors something hard to do with white truffles and a satisfying richness, complemented by the perfectly crunchy Tahdig, iconic golden rice crust. The braised lamb shoulder which Yacine suggested was the undeniable highlight of the meal I which each dish was excellent. Tender and flavorful, it was paired beautifully with texture. It’s a signature dish that rivals the best we’ve ever had, bringing to mind the legendary Bo Ssam pork shoulder from David Chang’s Momofuku— bold, unforgettable, and expertly prepared. The Gormeh Sabzi, short rib stew with its delicious sour depth, was excellent but couldn’t quite match the lamb’s showstopping brilliance. Two very minor points. While the food and service are exceptional, the main dining room lighting would benefit from dimming. A water filtration water system could make a big difference as well. JOON has firmly secured its place as a must-visit dining destination for us. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu.“

“The Evening Star is a jewel of a neighborhood restaurant, with delicious offerings. You can choose to sit inside where it is lively and festive, sit outside on the Front Porch, which allows you to take in the vibe and thrum of Del Ray, or in the back where you can dine outside as if you were grilling at home. The menu changes seasonally and the bar is skillful and inventive with their offerings. Our server was excellent. He was knowledgeable, attentive without hovering and well-versed in the menu and wine and beer selections. We couldn't have asked for a more lovely evening out.“

“We had a great time at 54. Very surprised to find it in a shopping mall, the place is big, and Tony our server was fantastic! Tonight they’re getting ready for a Halloween event and it looks like it’s gonna be fun.

“There are two entrances- main entrance is on the main parking lot side of the Eden center (and then you go down stairs). The other entrance is on the back, next to a gym, with less parking (and less light at night) but a door that's easier to find.“

“We ate here during a week of house-hunting from out of town. This place is exactly the type of neighborhood restaurant we enjoy: good food, relaxed attitude. We had lamb shish kabob and trout stuffed with spinach and both were perfectly done. We ate on the patio at 8 pm and had no issues with mosquitoes mentioned in another review. The place was full and lively but not too loud and we had no wait. Just felt right in every sense. We ended up buying a house a few blocks away and expect to be regulars here.“

“This was the perfect birthday celebration spot. Absolutely fautless service, incredibly delicious food and exceptional wine. Every staff member was so welcoming and helpful, gave us space and privacy and offered some great recommendations. The menu while not extensive, offers great local produce and perfectly paired combinations. We went for the charcuterie board, tomahawk sharing steak and the chocolate cake which all were fantastic and decadent. Would absolutely return for the next celebration!“
