Viva El Rey! I love El Rey - this restaurant and it's staff are exceptional and I'm so glad to have hosted my company's event here through Accenture. From event planning, email coordination, and day of execution, everything went smoothly! They are one of my favorite places in Ballston, and I know that every time that Accenture hosts a Happy Hour here that people are happy and genuinely excited. The Shrimp Tacos are a hit, the Guac is great, and the drinks are delicious....
Tried El Rey and it absolutely delivered.
The standout is the birria fundido — rich, cheesy, and packed with flavor. It’s the kind of dish you end up talking about the next day. Perfect for sharing, but honestly, you may not want to.
On the drinks side, the pumpkin old fashioned is a must. It’s smooth with just the right hint of seasonal spice without being overly sweet. A really well-balanced twist on a classic.

El Rey delivers bold, flavorful street tacos with great variety. The shrimp and steak tacos were fresh and well-balanced, and the loaded nachos and elote were rich and tasty. Portions are generous and everything came out looking vibrant. A little heavy on the crema/cheese, but overall a really solid, crave-worthy spot for casual Mexican food.
