Norfolk Botanical Garden Reviews
I used to rave about NBG but doubling your prices in one year for the Christmas lights is gross. 119$ for a family of 4 on a Tuesday BEFORE thanksgiving is highway robbery.
Norfolk Botanical Gardens is always a yes. I finally had the pleasure of visiting the Holiday Lights Display. The trail is walkable for all age groups and abilities. (There are benches to sit on all along the way).
I highly recommend it, for a memorable experience.

I've always loved the gardens, I've enjoyed visiting for years. Unfortunately, I'm leaving this review not because of the gardens themselves, but because of their dangerous and irresponsible policies during their dog Sunday events. During one of these events, my dog was attacked and severely wounded by another dog. I do not blame the gardens for the attack, accidents can happen anywhere and I understand that. However, what has deeply concerned me is the gardens' lack of response...read full review

The Norfolk Botanical Garden, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is a historic and expansive botanical garden that spans 175 acres. Established in 1938 as a Works Progress Administration project, it has grown into a premier nature experience, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a world of beauty and tranquility.
The garden is home to more than 60 themed gardens, including the stunning Rose Garden, the serene Japanese Garden, and the vibrant Butterfly Garden. With over 13,000 bulbs planted for seasonal beauty and more than 32,000 annuals, the garden features a variety of seasonal displays. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful azaleas in full bloom, which are part of the many creations of vegetation designed by nature.
During the holiday season, the Garden of Lights dazzles visitors with its beautiful illuminations, creating a truly mesmerizing atmosphere. The lights are beautifully crafted, and the garden's path is well-lit for easy navigation through the enchanting landscape. Holiday music in the background adds to the festive ambiance.
The garden provides accessibility options, including a mobility shuttle for those who prefer not to walk the entire route, though reservations for the shuttle must be made in advance. The golf cart tour offers a unique perspective, taking about 20-30 minutes to complete, and is recommended for families with young children. Visitors are advised to dress warmly and bring blankets for comfort during the ride.
Many benches are available around the garden, but some visitors feel they are underused since most people tend to walk in a giant loop without sitting down often. The garden could enhance the guest experience by offering more actions and activities beyond just walking, as there are many ideas for improvement.
Norfolk Botanical Garden is a haven for wildlife, hosting 95 species of birds and 30 kinds of butterflies, making it perfect for nature enthusiasts. Powered by 100% renewable energy, it reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability and has been recognized nationally for its beauty and innovation, including being named the #3 best botanical garden in the United States by Fodor’s Travel in 2023.
Families and friends can also enjoy on-site food vendors, such as Bear House Coffee and Duck Donuts, for hot drinks and snacks during their visit. Many visitors, including those who have memories from the past, find the garden to be a wonderful place to walk, see the vibrant vegetation, and enjoy the changing seasons. Whether a local resident or a visitor, Norfolk Botanical Garden offers a peaceful retreat and a chance to connect with nature meaningfully, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a festive outing.
