I had previously reviewed the Blue Apron as not only the best restaurant in Salem but in the entire Roanoke Valley, and it was still our go-to restaurant when we learned in early December that its final day would be December 23. A deep disappointment for many who have made this their first choice for years, but the owner says he wasn't able to get the help he needed to continue operating it. We were fortunate to enjoy two more dinners before they turned off the lights for good, and there was no diminution in standards as they wound things down. The web site hints that some new emanation may be coming soon, but I have no idea if that will actually come to pass. Thank you for 11 wonderful years!

Delicious! The only Restaurant in the area that we always go to for those special occasions.
Excellent! The shrimp and grits were unlike any I have had. The flavors were complex yet simple. My husband's lamb shank was probably the best he has had. I usually don't care for lamb because I think it's gamey, this lamb was melt in your mouth with a very clean, rich flavor. We also loved the crafted cocktails. I had a red rooster that was a very refreshing, not to sweet, strawberry flavor, you can tell it wasn't a premix. The staff was so kind as well. We will definitely add the Blue Apron to our favorites when we come to Salem.

Great waitresses, but hostess customer service is a different story. The hostess walked by our table, and we attempted to ask for the check. She looked directly at us and then continued walking. This is a low quality restaurant with the prices of a high quality one.The internet presence is very deceptive, and gives the appearance of a very high quality restaurant. That is not the case in reality.Not worth it at all. Would not go again.

Food and service were excellent. This small place in Salem has become one of our favorites. The half portion option is great if you are not super hungry and allowed us all to try 2 wonderful entrees. This is a very neat option that I wish more places offered. We had a couple special wine bottles from our wine cellar to pair with the food and the server handled it very well, which was refreshing as some places do not train servers well on dealing with corkage.

The food and ambiance here are outstanding for a date night! Reservations are highly recommended well in advance. Service is top notch! I'm from San Diego so I have a feel for good restaurants and this one fits the bill. The problem...I was on a business trip and ate alone. During that time I conversed with the wait staff and asked them what each of their go to dishes are. It was then that I learned that they only get to taste the food and are not fed or offered any discount... Cmon! Take care of your people...it's a very small staff...probably less than 10 employees. Margins on the food are not that much to justify not taking really good care of them. Great spot but really sad for the way employees appear to be treated. Owner...please post if this is not true because your place is solid other than that giant elephant in the room.

This has to be the best meal out I have ever had. I am so thankful they are rejuvenating Salem! I highly recommend reservations. Call, leave a message and they WILL call you back. All the food and service is exceptional. This is a must visit!!
This evening was lovely. My husband had the mussels and hangar steak with creme brulee. He was less than thrilled with his steak accompaniments but mentioned the mussels and sauce were savory and delicious. He was extremely happy with his creme brulee. For myself, the entire meal was wonderful! The heirloom tomato salad was fresh and well dressed without feeling heavy. The shrimp came with a sauce I can't recall the name of, but was fantastic. The peach and mango sorbet was more mango than peach, and was topped with fresh cherries and blueberries and I absolutely adored it. The whole meal, really fantastic. The entire wait team was amazing. Extraordinarily friendly and attentive; my water glass was kept full and I didn't wait long for either of my cocktails. Portions a but small for the price. Would have loved to see a few more veggies with the shrimp.. My husband says next time he will try a seafood dish. :) Overall, highly recommend for a lovely evening.

We recently had dinner at Blue Apron. We had a reservation (recommended) and our table was ready on time. Our food was very good. The mussels were excellent. I had a swordfish dish with mango vinaigrette. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce part of the vinaigrette was a nice compliment. My only criticism was the large amount of chopped mango on top of the fish.....it was too much. The service was spotty. After we were seated, it seemed to take awhile for someone to take our drink order and meal order. After that, the food came promptly. In fact, our entrees came before our appetizer dishes had been cleared. After dinner, it took awhile to get our check. When I made the reservation. the hostess asked if we could be done in 1 1/2 hours. We didn't make it.....not because we were slow. We'll return for the food....hopefully, service will improve

An online reservation for 6:30PM was made at 12:04. The reservation notification said BA was closed, but our confirmation would arrive soon. Called direct to BA at 5PM to confirm. Our reservation did not exist, but a 7:30 replacement was offered and declined. BA asked that we try another day, and that also was declined. FYI, BA diners, Frankie Rowland's Restaurant is just a block away.

Went with friends on a week night. Packed restaurant. Friendly staff. Food was served timely. Varied menu. Very good food. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our four different entrees. Hard to go wrong here.
