This was our second time visiting (our first was last June), and once again the experience was absolutely amazing! The seafood is super fresh and flavorful, and there are even some tasty options for those in our family who don’t care for seafood.
Our waitress was, Cassie, she was wonderful—attentive, kind, and so patient with my son, making sure his sweet tea was always full (and trust me, she refilled it at least 5 times without hesitation!)....read full review
Sat for 20 minutes watching the waiter go to every table around us... no one came to our table. Talked to 3 waiters, the bartenders, and the manager... still got no service.
10 minutes later a bartender came by and took our order and said it was on the house... this was a lie. Worst service I've ever experienced. Waiter even followed me to the bathroom and harassed me. I yelled at him for harassing me and apparently that's not ok there. We were asked to leave because I yelled...read full review
Used to be my favorite summer restaurant. Last 2 times weren’t good. The last time especially, was horrible. Ordered grilled shrimp with baked potato. I received shrimp cocktail that had been heated and had a little Old Bay on it. Didn’t receive baked potato at all. 10 minutes after my dinner arrived I was told potato wasn’t ready, it was after 5 and they opened at 4. Then a few minutes later was told I wasn’t getting a baked potato at all, I was getting little new potatoes....read full review

Surf Rider Grill is a popular seafood restaurant in Virginia Beach, known for its high-quality, ocean-fresh offerings. The restaurant features a nautical-themed setting that complements its seafood-focused menu. Visitors often praise the crab cakes, which are always amazing and made without fillers, and the she crab soup. The staff is attentive and friendly, providing excellent service and helpful recommendations. Many diners enjoy sitting outside, especially in the marina area, where the water views add to the dining experience.
The menu includes a variety of delicious options, such as the famous Run Runner and seafood platter, which is often served with large sides like broccoli. The restaurant is appreciated for its quality food and kid-friendly atmosphere. Despite some seasonal closures, it remains a favorite spot for seafood lovers and those seeking a great dining experience in Virginia Beach.
Surf Rider is a local gem for fresh seafood and a relaxed, coastal vibe. The oysters are always top-notch, the crab cakes are some of the best around, and the seafood is fresh and prepared with care. The menu has a great balance—classic seafood dishes alongside casual favorites—so there's something for everyone.
The service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere feels like a true neighborhood spot: laid-back, comfortable, and welcoming. Prices are fair for the quality, and the portions never leave you hungry. The fried flounder is huge and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the wedge salad with balsamic dressing is a delicious addition.
