“Bait Shop is everyone's favorite N Capitol Hill bar/eatery. The seats are comfortable, there are often dog patrons to pet, the food is top notch (chubby friends love the wings). It totally lacks pretension without sacrificing a sophistication unique to just a few local watering holes; like a dive bar without being a dive bar. I attribute the positive atmosphere to the hands-on owners who greet regulars like old friends while multitasking, making tasty and quality cocktails (always impressed by a garnish.) Even when it's super busy, I never feel stressed out by the occupancy number. Huzzah.“

“Take food that exceeds all of your expectations and add the perfect hole in the wall atmosphere and you have the Pacific in pub down next to the water and close to everything (I was visiting the Fremont troll on that day which is only a couple of blocks away)... For over a year I had a co-worker telling me that it was the best fish and chips anywhere in the greater Seattle area. That is actually saying a lot, because one, this is Seattle and we are the world capital of fish and chips, and two, he was an Uber driver for many years and would snack just about anywhere... Guaranteed. I will be back in the very, very near future. One of the most unique fish batters absolutely highlighted this amazing fresh fish and there is a reason that they are famous for their fish and chips. I fell in love not only with the seriously cool hole in the wall atmosphere of the plates, but both of the staff personnel that I had talked to were people that I wanted to go and hang out with. Love this place, love the food, love the location, love the atmosphere, love the people. You have got to go ... And on a trivia and- Anthony Bourdain visited this place and absolutely swore by it“

“Stopped in with a friend to play some pinball on Wednesday 8/23/23. Pinball map was pretty accurate regarding pins on location, and the games we played were in good condition, spaced out well, and most had cupholders or tables close by. There were the requisite 40"-50" TVs playing sports set up around the bar, but they were not the center of attention - this isn't a sports bar. There were 4-5 pool tables, and all were busy by the time we left for the Ice Box around 9 PM. Stiff well drinks, a decent selection of beer, etc., and decent prices for the area. I like the square wooden-framed ~25'x25' area around the bar, away from the pinball and pool - it was kind of cozy and they had a corner with a mic set up for...music or karaoke or stand-up, or something else I guess. New owners revamped this place in late 2021 or early 2022, and they kept the dive bar atmosphere, but really cleaned the place up. No yucky smells, and I didn't feel like I had to wash my hands after I left. I know that's not a high bar, but I what I mean was that it was a pleasant and unpretentious place to hang out. Didn't try any food - maybe next time. Sorry, no pictures this time!“

“The boxcar is a decent neighborhood dive bar that is convenient and consistently filled with customers. They have karaoke, but I forget which nights. They will let u bring your dog as long as u sit outside and they have a covered back patio section where u can watch football and get a bit of fresh air in rain or shine. The chili here is really good and I've also tried a chicken sandwich and the French dip. Food is really good value for the price, which is very important to me. Nothing worse than paying a ton of money and leaving hungry and dissatisfied. That won't happen to you at the Boxcar. Stop by and check em out if you're ever in my neighborhood.“

Reservoir Bar & Grill Bar & Grill • $
8509 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle - 4.7 miles

“I had the pleasure of going here last night with my neighbors. We hadn’t found our local watering hole since moving here about a year ago. Well, last night we fixed that problem! The Reservoir is probably the coolest neighborhood bar around. When you walk in, you walk into a huge room with pool tables, a tall wood bar, good music, and friendly staff. We got our drinks and headed out back to the patio area. There was a grassy area, a shed with a very large tv in it, a covered smoking area and picnic tables under a separate covered area.We met the owner who was such a nice lady. We learned that they’d just reopened after a series of setbacks that took 5 months to fix! She was very proud of being able to take care of her employees during that time and I really admired that about her. You could really tell how deeply she loves her bar that’s been in her family since 1991.Haven’t gone into the Reservoir? CHANGE THAT AND GO!!! You’re gonna have a blast.“

“Typical Seattle dive bar and I mean that quite fondly. Drinks are strong and cheap, service friendly and there's usually a dog or two to pet. “This place had all the markings of a typical dive bar. There were plenty of TVs to watch sports and a couple of pool tables. The interior was dimly lit with more tables and seating in the back. It was a neighborhood bar with a lot of locals and frequent barflys.Their website said that their happy hour is from 4-7pm but when we arrived at 6pm the bartender said it was actually 4-6pm. She told us though that "it's not happy hour but our stuff is cheap anyway" which was a funny exchange and gave us a chuckle. She was right though because wells were $5 and the Moscow mule was $8 (although it was just okay). We played pool, watched some TV, and just hung out. It was a cool vibe.“

“So, I found myself at a local bar, the Zoo on a Tuesday night, my first impressions were so wrong! The bartender Dylan greeted me on a obviously busy night, saying he’ll be right with me, and he was. I was served and wandered towards the pool tables, I was told it was league night, so I watched for a minute. I was immediately drawn to a guy shooting pool with one arm, not that he didn’t have another arm, so I thought he was showing off maybe. I spoke with him after, he introduced himself as “Boston” and I said “ahh you’re from California?” We were friends from that point! He shot one handed and he said because that’s how he plays best, and I have to say I may have never seen a better pool player since I have been in Seattle 25 years. He provides a great part of the atmosphere, as well as Dylan, and the other locals, who live on Eastlake Ave E like me! I've seen Boston and Dylan, and some of the others around and we always B.S and I am so glad I decided to go to The Zoo, or I would have missed out on some cool, neighborhood friends. Don’t think you can beat Boston, or a couple others in a game of pool, I did, and never touched the table, straight run first game, I removed my quarters after that, and left the pool to Boston and the crew! Thanks for taking a stranger and making him a friend Zoo!Parking: Easy peasy street parkingWheelchair accessibility: large entrance, plenty of space“

The ambience is exactly what it should be for a dive karaoke bar -- complete with neon lights, and a raucous and supportive crowd. The KJ is great and singing starts at nine. There is some serious talent and amazing stage names like Maximus Hubris. A couple sang a song by evanescence and just brought the house down.
