“Excellent service and food. Love the farm to table business model and that all artwork is local, for sale, and the money goes to the artist with no restaurant commission. Menu is unique and changes seasonally. Will eat here again for sure.”

“We went to El Camino to celebrate the Birthday of my son's fiancé. We had a great time. The food was delicious and seeing there were 12 of us we had a good variety of menu items. Everyone loved it. our waitress Emma was a pure delight. It was pretty busy when we got there and she never missed a beat. Very friendly, attentive, and prompt. Great food, service, and atmosphere. we highly recommend.”

“Hidden in plain sight in Lake Villa, this Italian restaurant is the kind of unassuming neighborhood gem critics quietly root for. It isn’t flashy, it isn’t loud, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: a place that consistently serves excellent food at fair prices. In the Lakes region—where Italian options can feel uneven—this spot rises confidently to the top. On my most recent visit, I was seated immediately at a corner table, a small but meaningful luxury in an age of hour-long waits. The dining room, typically hushed enough for actual conversation, again delivered one of its underrated pleasures: a peaceful meal without the intrusive din that plagues so many suburban restaurants. Service followed suit—friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, never hovering or rushing. The kitchen remains the star. My spaghetti with vodka sauce was outstanding—rich, balanced, and among the best renditions I’ve had anywhere in the region. Other entrées at the table echoed the same strengths: sauces with clarity and depth, pastas cooked with confident restraint, portions generous without tipping into excess. Cocktails, too, arrived promptly and properly mixed, further reinforcing the sense of a kitchen-and-bar team that takes pride in their craft. If there is a shortfall, it lies in the ambiance. The room carries a certain charm, but the décor feels a step behind the quality of the food. A refresh of tables, finishes, and overall presentation would elevate the experience from very good to genuinely special. The warmth is there—the aesthetics simply haven’t caught up yet. Even so, the value proposition is undeniable. For reliably excellent Italian cuisine, low noise, easy seating, earnest service, and honest pricing, this restaurant more than earns its “highly recommended” status. It is, in every meaningful way, Lake Villa’s little culinary treasure.”

“Really enjoyed our visit to MBC. Our bartender, Christian, was spot on. She answered my many questions quickly and correctly. A small mix-up in my order was remedied immediately. Good draft selection. (32 0z. option, mmm). Cheese curd sampler outstanding. The two of us almost couldn't eat more. Glad we did, though. Double patty smash burger, yummy. Three bacon choices, yummy. (Think large Steak and Shake, but GOOD). Fresh cut fries, battered fries, and tons of menu choices. Will be back.”

“Enjoyable place to eat. Kind staff and good food
Parking: The parking is very cramped and annoying but overall I would say it is worth it just to be able to eat here.
Kid-friendliness: Nice atmosphere and good decorations. There are modern elements like tablets to order on and displays of the cookies.
Wheelchair accessibility: Can roll wheelchair, might have trouble because of the curb but overall, not hard for wheelchairs.”

“Highly recommend! Wow. What an experience at The Vegas Cafe in Antioch, Illinois. The food and drinks were excellent. We had the stuffed French toast, a skillet, pancakes, strawberry waffles, and a breakfast wrap. For drinks, we ordered hot chocolate and iced tea and everything was delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is truly amazing. From the hostesses to our server to the bussers, everyone was hardworking, kind, and genuinely caring. You could feel it right when you walked in. They wanted you there and treated you so well. Then there is the owner, Helen. She is an absolute gem. She introduced herself and spent time talking with us about her family, the business, and getting to know us. Even before she mentioned she was the owner, you could tell by the way she carried herself and interacted with guests. She clearly cares about her staff and her customers. When Helen found out we were there celebrating my mother’s birthday, she went above and beyond. My mom is still talking about it. We are so thankful to our server Callie, the owner Helen, and everyone at The Vegas Cafe. Thank you all for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.”

“We ordered hand pies for a large family breakfast and blueberry scones! Everyone raved and we went back for more! My mom loves pecan pie and bought her a pecan dessert and in all her 81 years, she said Baking Bird is the best! 🫐 We love out of town and will drive in to pick up these delicious, savory “homemade” delights! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Since its transformation into Taylor’s on Toft, this bar has established itself as one of Antioch’s most polished and welcoming drinking destinations. The owner—often found behind the bar—sets the tone with a warm, personable presence that immediately makes guests feel at ease. Her cocktail craftsmanship is equally impressive: the Manhattan is exemplary, balanced and precise, while the martinis are consistently excellent, executed with confidence and restraint. The ambiance strikes an ideal note—refined yet relaxed—making it a natural choice for a pre-dinner aperitif or a lingering post-meal nightcap. During a recent visit, a live singing group added a festive touch, infusing the space with genuine Christmas cheer without overwhelming the intimate atmosphere. While we have not yet sampled the food, dishes arriving at neighboring tables are beautifully presented and look enticing, suggesting the bar program is thoughtfully complemented by the kitchen. Taylor’s on Toft is a standout in Antioch: a place defined by gracious hospitality, expertly made cocktails, and an atmosphere that invites return visits. Highly recommended.”

“My husband and I have enjoyed our dinners here for 45 years. Similar menu and same receipes. We celebrated our wedding rehearsal dinner here. Our favorite restaurant for our anniversary and birthdays, the best restaurant for Friday fish fry in the state of Wisconsin!”

“Some restaurants mature gracefully; a precious few actually get better with age. This charming, tightly packed spot—long a local favorite—has clearly entered its prime. After some time away, we returned slightly ahead of our reservation and were seated immediately at a table that allowed for effortless conversation. Yes, the space is compact and the tables closely spaced, but the room’s moderate hum works in its favor: lively, never intrusive. Service on this visit was exemplary—attentive without hovering, informed without pretense, and genuinely warm. Our server guided us through the menu with seasoned confidence, and his recommendations were both thoughtful and impeccably accurate. The cocktail program impressed as well, not only for its craftsmanship but for its hospitality: when one drink failed to satisfy, it was whisked away and replaced without hesitation. A small gesture, and a deeply classy one. The kitchen is cooking with clarity and conviction. My ribeye arrived perfectly executed—textbook sear, well-judged seasoning, and cooked to the precise temperature requested. It is, without exaggeration, one of the best steaks I have enjoyed locally in recent memory. Accompanying it was a special potato preparation: imagine a luxurious scalloped potato, layered and compressed, then cut into thick “steak fries.” Externally crisp, internally silky—an elevated, indulgent rethink of a familiar comfort. My wife’s mussels, presented with Thai aromatics, were equally accomplished. She praised them with the kind of enthusiasm that only a genuinely memorable dish inspires. And the French onion soup? Quite simply the finest iteration I have encountered anywhere: deeply caramelized onions, a broth with true backbone, and a cheese crown that achieves the rare alchemy of richness without heaviness. The wine list shows a commendable sensibility, particularly in its by-the-glass program, which favors quality over breadth. Pairings were easy, and our requests for slight menu modifications were met with seamless accommodation. If there is a flaw, it lies in the cramped dimensions of the room—but in practice, service and cuisine are so strong they render the limitation almost trivial. Highly recommended. This is a restaurant confidently hitting its stride, and absolutely worth your return.”
